Sunshine Girls outclass T&T

Jamaica's Sunshine Girls outclassed their Caribbean rivals Trinidad and Tobago 64-36 to take a 1-0 series lead in the opening match of their three-Test series last night at the G. C. Foster College in St Catherine.

The Connie Francis-coached Jamaicans dominated the game from start to finish as they led 19-9 at the end of the first period. They then led 35-20 at half-time and 50-28 at the end of the third period.

Goal shooter Jhanelle Fowler led the way for the Jamaicans with 29 goals from 33 attempts. She received solid support from Simone Forbes (17 from 21), Tashana Bloomfield (12 from 15), and Ann-Kay Griffiths (six from seven). Jonelle Barker was the leading scorer for the Trinidadians with 12 goals from 15 attempts. Barker received support from Anastacia Wilson (eight from 12) and Jellene Richardson (eight from 14).

Francis said she was very delighted with her team's efforts because they played well in areas of the court.

"I thought that is was a good performance because all 12 players went out there with a purpose and showed that they are here to compete for a final spot on the World Championships team."
