Preparations on for Carnival of Speed

Just like the underdog David defeating Goliath in the Bible, a number of determined drivers are eyeing their more celebrated rivals at the 'Carnival of Speed' Dover race meet, which is scheduled for Easter Monday, April 25.

One such driver is Captain Marck Carey. Carey recently brought down two experts from the United States to assist with the tuning of his locally built race car. He is looking to turn the tables on David Summerbell, Doug Gore, Peter Rae and Chris Campbell in the day's feature, the Thundersport event.

"Sometimes it is not the person with the faster car who wins, but the man with the more reliable vehicle. My car has been totally rebuilt, I am now in process of taking it to the track for testing and tuning," Carey told Automotives.

Though he is not ignoring the comments being made by his rivals, defending champion David Summerbell was in a relaxed mood.

"My preparation is already completed. All I am waiting on now is for the race day to come," said Summerbell.

The promising Andre Anderson aims not only to win the Thundersport One event, but also take the challenge to the front-runners.

"The cars of Doug Gore, Summerbell, Chris Campbell, Marck Carey and Peter Rae are superior to my car, but in terms of lap times, they will not be far off from me," said Anderson.

Driving his upgraded, Superior Auto Parts-sponsored Honda Civic, the Elizabeth-based Tedroy Burton is aiming to establish a new track record in the MP3 event.

His mechanic Xavier Murray and the Maad Crew have been busy preparing the vehicle.

fun competition

Alan Chen, who will be sporting Peter 'Bull' Thompson's RX7 Mazda, said while he is still learning about the car, he is just coming to compete and have fun.

Others to look out for are Peter Jaggon, with his Honda CRX, and Charles Chen's Mitsubishi Evolution VII.

Gary Gregg is set to return to the class which was once his stamping ground, driving a hatchback Honda Civic.

Former champion Chris Campbell was seen testing his home-built BMW M3 race car. He, too, will be a factor.

More than 20 motorcyclists are expected to make the grid this meet, headed by Adrian Blake, Halquin Rodney, Dennis Chin-Quee, Dwight Smart and Greg Cross.
