Dover Easter Carnival promises lots of excitement

The Easter 'Carnival of Speed' race meet promises to be one of the most exciting and thrilling showdowns ever to be seen at the Dover Raceway over the past five years.

Diehard motorsport fans from across the island are eagerly awaiting the major clash between the country's top circuit racing drivers in the Thundersport Sport event.

"I am sticking with David Summerbell all the way; because Doug Gore's car is new it will need some lap time before it is ready," Wayne 'Bowlas' Nesbeth, one of the prominent fans at the track said.

His views were also shared by David Rose, who is of the opinion that Gore's car might become the fastest race car in the island by year end, but for now, it needs more time.

Looking forward to the showdown

While he has not pinpointed any one driver to dominate, former chairman of the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC), Errol Anderson, said he too is looking forward to the showdown among Summerbell, Gore, Chris Campbell and Peter Rae.

"I am looking forward to a great and exciting day of racing," Anderson told The Sunday Gleaner.

Other drivers who are expected to give a good account of themselves are Peter Jaggon in his Honda CRX and Charles Chen from Mandeville with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9. There is also Alan Chen who will be testing the May Pen Ice Mazda RX7, usually driven by Peter 'Bull' Thompson.

Jaleel Handal's Subaru Impreza has undergone a complete makeover and should add to the excitement. Meanwhile, Gary 'The Colonel' Gregg is set to return with his Honda Civic hatchback.

Among the favourites, Chris Campbell looks well prepared with his BMW M3 racing car, likewise David Summerbell and his Mitsubishi Evolution 8 and Doug Gore in his spanking new Audi.

More than 20 motorcyclists are expected to make the grid for this meet. They are headed by Adrian Blake, Halquin Rodney, Dennis Chin-Quee, Dwight Smart and Greg Cross.
