NOTEWORTHY

Published:Tuesday | April 19, 2011 | 12:00 AM

Below are excerpted comments from readers of www.jamaica-gleaner.com in response to yesterday's triple murder-suicide by a retired cop.

Is the world mad?

What's the matter with these people? Is it that the world has gone mad? If you can't deal with a situation, why not take your own life and leave others to live theirs?

Killed by the 'law'

Why are policemen going around killing their spouses? Take control of yourselves. These serious crimes should not be committed by law-enforcement officers.

Walking dead

This should be expected. These police officers have been wantonly killing innocent Jamaicans for a long time, and have got away with it. Someone once said that every time that one takes a life, part of the killer dies too.

In that regard, there are a lot of walking dead in the Jamaica Constabulary Force. This is only the beginning.

Avoid the cops!

Is this a passion killing? This spike in passion killings by cops is a dangerous sign because these people are legal carriers of gun. Women should wake up to the reality of life with cops. Avoid them, ladies, although I know many would disagree with me on that.

Focus on mental health

Sadly, history has repeated itself so soon. However, in this case, the perpetrator was a retiree who was in some way out of the loop and most likely not being observed as much as the one after which he patterned his rampage.

Mental health needs to be the focus of attention in any society, especially as it relates to those deemed to be most vulnerable. Personal issues aside, it is not uncommon for those who have served in the military or in law enforcement to succumb to stress-related illness, given the nature of their jobs.

Senseless

Wow, another senseless killing. This man snuffed out the life of a beautiful girl who I grew up with in Brompton, St Elizabeth. I am at a loss for words. A beautiful, quiet, loving girl from school. To the Hutchinson family, you guys have always been a Christian family, and I pray that you find strength in God's arms.
