Jamalco hunt crucial points

Former champions Jamalco will be looking to close the gap on the leaders and defending champions, Tivoli Gardens, when they oppose Mico in today's feature match of the Jamaica Netball Association Berger Paints Super League at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 6:45 p.m.

The Winston Nevers-coached Jamalco are third in the standings with 17 points, nine behind Tivoli Gardens, who lead the points table with 26 and will be out of action today, along with second-place Waulgrovians (25), who are unbeaten and will be inactive today.

In the day's other game that will be played simultaneously, the University of the West Indies Revolution (6) will battle fourth-place Windalco (10).

However, Jamalco have played two games less than Tivoli and one less than Waulgrovians.

Win necessary

"It is a very important game for us because we need to win it by more than five goals so that we can get an extra point from this match," said Nevers, whose team last won the competition in 2007.

"We just have go out and play some strong netball because every team in this competition is very strong, despite of their position in the standings," he said.

The Clarendon-based Jamalco will rest their hopes on national players Nadine Bryan, Sasher-Gaye Henry, Althea Byfield, Naudia Brown, Kameika Sherwood; and with former national players Elaine Davis and Marsha Murphy.

Mico, currently at the bottom of the table with five points, have only recorded one win in six matches this season.

The Annette Daley-coached Mico, the youngest side in the competition, will be relying heavily on national representative Kimone Tulloch, along with former national Under-21 players Vanessa Walker and Patricia McCalla.
