Rivalry renewed

The clash between Collin Daley Jr and his long-time rival, Matthew Williams, at last weekend's go-kart race meet at the Palisadoes International Raceway in Kingston lived up to expectations.

It could have been anyone's race in the Rotax Junior Class event as both karters raced bumper to bumper, taking turns in assuming the lead.

But as patrons were expecting more, Williams developed mechanical problems with two laps to go, and Daley took the chequered flag.

Earlier in the day, Williams had won two of the three Rotax Junior Class events.

"Matthew really had a good meet. He has gained significantly from the overseas experiences, which also have boosted his confidence and maturity. Thanks to Dekal Wireless, who has played a great role," said Neil Williams, Mathews' father.

Daley's dad, Colin Daley Sr, was overwhelmed by the performance of both karters.

"Both of them were really good and they are shaping up to be good sportsmen. You can see they are learning from the overseas experiences," said Daley Sr.

Top performers

Among the meet's top performers were Thomas Issa, who easily dominated the Rotax Mini Max Class. The Campion College schoolboy, who is preparing for the US Grand National and Pan American Finals later this year, has come under pressure to defend his Abe Ziadie Memorial Trophy from Peter Moodie Jr, who has been dominating the Rotax Masters Class.

In the Mini max class, Issa demonstrated why he is doing well in the overseas circuit by putting on a dominant display, winning all three races. The ever-improving Joshua Sirgany, also with recent good showings in the US, came in second.

Third went to Jonathan Law, who had an entertaining battle with Frazer McConnell in the last lap of the last race. They passed each other multiple times, with Law getting the upper hand in the penultimate corner to snatch third place.

In the Masters class, it was a walk-away victory for Peter Moodie Jr. He easily outpaced his nearest competitor, Garth Genus, and never looked challenged at any time. Third went to Dr Mark Minott, who had good battles with Genus.
