CTL to salute great performances at Durex Records & Milestones meet

The commemorative records and milestones race meet, sponsored by Durex Condoms, will take place at Caymanas Park on Labour Day, Monday, May 23.

Plans for the meet were outlined at yesterday's launch at Caymanas Park by representatives of Facey Commodity, distributors of Durex condoms, as well as Caymanas Track Limited (CTL).

The holiday meet, featuring the Durex Labour Day Trophy (high claiming) over 1200 metres, is being promoted to highlight many of the great performances and achievements by horses and horsemen in over 50 years of racing at Caymanas.

These include jockey Andrew Ramgeet's historic riding feat of notching eight winners on a single programme at Caymanas Park on Saturday, November 20, 1993; Winston Griffiths becoming the first racing personnel to attain 1,000 winners on Saturday, November 13, 1993; Griffiths and 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny teaming up to win all five Classics in 1992; not to mention the 1996 Triple Crown winner WAR ZONE's long-standing record of 12 consecutive wins.

Speaking on behalf of the sponsors, Erica Stephenson, brand manager Durex Condoms, saw the promotion as a "healthy and responsible partnership" between Durex Condoms and CTL.

"We are mindful of the fact that our products play an important role in protecting the nation's health. A male-dominated environment such as Caymanas Park is fertile ground for the use of our products, as this encourages healthy lifestyles," she said.

Special races

CTL's racing secretary, Denzil Miller Jr, in providing raceday details, said all races on the card will offer trophies, donated by Durex Condoms.

In additon to the Labour Day Trophy, there will be a race for the Winston Griffiths, OD, Most Classic Wins Trophy, sponsored by Durex Retardant Condom; the Trevor Simpson 172 wins in a season Trophy, sponsored by Durex Tropical Condom; the War Zone 12 Consecutive Wins Trophy, sponsored by Durex Pleasure Max Condom; the Philip Feanny, OD, Most Classic Wins Trophy, sponsored by Natural Condom; the Highest Pick-9 $46.9 million Trophy, sponsored by Durex Extra Safe Condom, as well as the Viceroy three-time 'Horse of the Year' Trophy, sponsored by Durex Extra Thin Condom; the Kenneth Mattis, OD, Double Hall of Fame Inductee Trophy, sponsored by Durex Intense Sensation Condom; Menudo four consecutive Superstakes wins Trophy, sponsored by Durex Rumba Condom; and the Highest Win Payout Trophy, sponsored by Durex Fuego Condom.

A one-minute video presentation conceived by CTL's acting CEO, Camille Buchanan, which will form the basis of the media campaign, was shown. The clip features sound bites of MR LEX from Feanny, Griffiths, Trevor Simpson, Wayne DaCosta, Wesley Henry, Miss Likkle and the popular exercise jockey Prince 'Daggerman' Holder, who at three-foot-five is the shortest rider at Caymanas Park.
