JNA moves to raise $2m for WNC

The Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) yesterday rolled out a number of fund-raising initiatives, as they seek to raise more than $2 million to send the Sunshine Girls' team to this year's World Netball Championships (WNC), which will be held in Singapore from July 3-10.

Among their fund-raising activities that were announced at press conference, held at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Student's Union, was their big Sunshine Evening concert, which will be headlined by dancehall superstar Beenie Man.

The concert, which will be held on June 12 at the UWI Assembly Hall, will also feature the likes of Protoje, Jimmy Riley, D'Major, Pam Hall, DiMario McDowell and Dwight and friends.

Radio personality Jenny Jenny and comedian and poet Michael Abrahams will be the masters of ceremonies. Tickets for the concert will cost $2,000 (VIP) and general admittance - $1,000 (presold) $1,200 at the gate. The show is set to start at 6 p.m.

Prior to the big concert, the JNA will stage a number of fund-raising drives across the Corpo-rate Area. Their first stop will be at the Portmore Mall in St Catherine on May 21. They will then journey to Twin Gates Plaza, St Andrew, on May 28, MegaMart, Waterloo Road, St Andrew, on June 4, and finally Sovereign Centre, Old Hope Road, St Andrew, on June 11.

Marva Bernard, president of the JNA, called on lovers of the sport to get on board and support the Sunshine Girls because, according to her, they are going to make the country very proud at the WNC by winning the gold medal.

"The girls can win this tournament," said Bernard. "I have seen the work that they have been putting in at training and so I know that they can do it.

"I want everyone to come out and support the girls as we try to raise the money to send our team to Singapore, because I am confident that they are going to make us very proud," Bernard added.
