Cavalier look to stay on top

Cavalier will be looking to extend their lead atop the standings in the Jamaica Football Federation All Island Confederation play-offs when they oppose Highgate in today's feature match at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex starting at 3:30 p.m.

In the day's other game which will be played at the same time, Seba United will battle bottom-place Rivoli United at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay.

The Joseph Campbell-coached Cavalier, who registered 1-0 victory over Rivoli in their last game head the standings with four points and they are followed by Highgate (two), Seba (two) and Rivoli (one).

Eyeing victory

Campbell said his team is very upbeat and is eyeing victory ahead of today's encounter.

"We are going to play some good, attractive football and ensure that we come away with a victory," said Campbell.

"The team is in very high spirits and the players are confident and with the crowd behind us I am expecting a win and, if not, we will take a draw," said Campbell.

Cavalier will rest their hopes on the shoulders of top forward Fabian Nethersole, along with Donovan Alvaranga, Fabian Swaby and Bernard Blackwood to lead them to victory.

Calvin Lewis, coach of Highgate, said this game is a very important one for his team and so they will be pulling out all the stops to secure a victory.

"This is a very crucial game for us because once we win, then we will move to the top of the standings and that is what we are aiming for tomorrow (today)," said Lewis whose team played to 1-1 draw with Seba in their last game.

"We have been playing well in this competition so far, but the problem is that we have been scoring early goals, but conceding late ones and once we can avoid this, then we should come out on top."Among the players Lewis will look to are former national player, the veteran Roen 'Bumpy' Nelson and Carlos Barrett.
