Right Marker a very safe banker

With 10-1 shot BRASH & SASSY derailing punters in the penultimate race on Monday's Labour Day programme, the Pick-9 had no takers and the carryover tomorrow stands at a whopping $4.6 million.

Both Super-6s were cornered on Labour Day and start anew with the guaranteed minimum of $750,000. The Pick-9 embraces races three to 11, the first Super-6 from one to six, followed by the overlapping Super-6 from six to 11.

We look at the second Super-6 which gets under way with a 3-y-o maiden condition race in which the lightly raced but improving MADIBA under leading jockey Shane Ellis, MY GIRL NALA, SIMPLY OUTSTANDING, PRINCECHAD, KOMPRESSOR and WAR HERO are the main hopefuls in a maximum field of 16.

The Patrick Taylor-trained WAR HERO has failed to deliver despite being highly fancied on numerous occasions. However, tomorrow presents him with a real opportunity to finally release the maiden certificate, but he'll first have to go through MADIBA, who finished like a runaway train over 1200 metres when third to SUPER CAT in a blanket finish over 1200 metres on April 30.

That was only MADIBA's second outing, and with the blinkers now fitted by trainer Norman Palmer, should make no mistake. WAR HERO and MY GIRL NALA, who was a fast-finishing second to DELICIOSA at 1200 metres last Saturday, are twin dangers.

SUPER DAVE (Dane Nelson up), who beat all barring ROMEZ in the Easter Sprint Cup over 1200 metres on April 25, should go one better at the expense of old rivals SARAGOSSA and ANITOCH in the seventh race (overnight allowance) over the straight-five course.

SUPER DAVE, who galloped past the furlong pole a clear leader in the Easter Sprint, has been a model of consistency and is more effective over the straight. The speedy three-year-old colt SARAGOSSA has won twice over the course this season and looks the principal danger with title-chasing jockey Dick Cardenas aboard.

RHEA ON TOUR, who was a beaten favourite last time out, should rebound in Division II of the 3-y-o maiden special (8th race) over 1300 metres, a race in which GOLD RUNNER and A & S EXPRESS are main dangers.

Then, take the lightly weighted SUPER CENTRE, with 2.0kg claiming apprentice Georgina Sergeon aboard, to stave off the very fit TIME OF STORM and CALL FOR A CAT in the ninth race over 1300 metres for the Henry George Harrison Sr Memorial Cup over 1300 metres, as well as unlucky Oaks runner-up RIGHT MARKER as a banker in the 10th, and recent winner PEDRO BLUFF to repeat in the closing straight-five race for $180,000 claimers.
