WIPA congratulates Gayle, WI players
The West Indies Players Association (WIPA) yesterday sent congratulatory messages to West Indies players Christopher Gayle, Jerome Taylor, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo, who recently took part in the fourth annual Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to WIPA, the players produced a number of quality performances, most notably Gayle, who scored 608 runs - including a record two centuries - and was named player of the tournament.
"Gayle's participation was particularly noteworthy since he was a latecomer to the tournament, but ended it by powering his team to the finals," said WIPA in a media release yesterday.
"After 12 matches, he amassed 608 runs, made the highest score of 107 and recorded a phenomenal
"His impact on this year's IPL was such that several cricket commentators have dubbed 'IPL Four' as Chris Gayle's tournament," the release added.
WIPA also highlighted the performances Pollard, who captured the tournament's most catches award, and Bravo, who was a member of the winning Chennai Super Kings team, saying that they had contributed to making the region feel proud.
"We are certain that the majority of West Indian cricket fans in and beyond the Caribbean share the pride of their achievements. It is a demonstration that our cricket can still reach the pinnacle of the world game if the environment and conditions are right," continued the release.
