JCA head to ratify committees

Former national player and newly elected president of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA), Lyndel Wright, is expected to ratify a new slate of committees next week when the executive and its consultants gather at a specially arranged meeting.

In what will be the the administration's first set of major appointments since it took office three weeks ago, the committees, according to secretary Fritz Harris, are expected to reflect the needs and wants of the association, given the challenges it faces in making cricket the country's No. 1 sport again.

"There are a group of persons who are currently looking into the formation of committees from the previous administration," said Harris.

"These individuals, after their analysis, are scheduled to submit their recommendations at a special meeting which has been proposed for June 8.

"The president will sign off on who he sees best as having what it takes to help the association achieve its goals and objectives," he added.

The committees, in the meantime, which will be used to guide the administration's policy and programmes throughout its two-year tenure, are expected to include several members of the past administration as a means of continuity and ensuring that those who are competent continue serving the game.

"I don't expect that the committees, some of which could be merged or changed, will have a lot of new faces, as, while there have been persons who have underperformed in the past, the JCA is blessed with good committee members," Harris explained.

"What we need to do is ensure that when the new committees are named they are given clear directives as to their roles and responsibilities, and they are monitored accordingly," he stated further.
