Saint International, the organiser of Styleweek, said patrons can expect the same quality from their marquee event, Fashionblock, even after it was postponed on Sunday because of persistent rain.

The decision to postpone the event came at 9 o' clock last Sunday night. A meeting of the organiser and those involved resulted in a June 19 reschedule. The organiser has, in fact, said the postponement means the event will be bigger than it was originally intended to be.

With the new date set, Deiwght Peters of Saint International said the designers who were to be featured on the show will be returning to the island.

Indashio, the designer who boasts the featured line, left the island on Friday but will return for the new date.

According to Peters, he chose June 19 because he had to consider when the designers would next be able to make it back to the island. He also had to pay attention to the showing of resort collections in New York and Europe where some of the designers will be at work.

Whole different level

"It just gives us more time to put a more spectacular show together. All the celebrities and international media, who expressed interest in attending, also have more time to get everything in order as well. We'll be taking it up a whole different level now. From the live performances aspect of the show, those elements will be on fire, like never before seen on a fashion show," Peters said.

Peters said there were members of the international media who told him they were gearing up and looking forward to Fashionblock.

"There's nothing like it (Fashionblock) on this side of the world. There's no fashion show in the middle of the street in New York, plus the whole idea of it taking place in Kingston, which has an image out there already ... . They are all very supportive of it. They will be returning for the next date, though," he said.
