Brown maintains lead at golf trials

Wesley Brown is still ahead of the pack in the men's category of the National Golf Trials now on at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course in Montego Bay.

Brown shot two under par yesterday to maintain his lead. His two-day score of 138 puts him 11 strokes in front of Sean Morris, who is currently tied with Keith Stein in second with 149. Fabian Campbell is fourth with 152 (77, 75).

Robert Chin proved his consistency by shooting 81 to maintain his current place at the head of the senior section with 161 (80/81). Jamaica Golf Association president Wayne Chai Chong moved into second place with a total of 166 (89/77). Greg Chong is third with 171.

Super senior Dennis Atkinson was seven strokes higher than Thursday's score of 77, however, he held on to the lead even with yesterday's score of 84 (total 161). Opeton Marshall captured second place with a combined score of 162 (84/78), two shots ahead of Fred Sutherland, who lies third with 164.

Leiza Blakely maintained her lead with scores of 88, 81 (169) among the women. Michele Gabay moved into second place with 91 and 88 (179). Junior golfer Rochell Prince is third on 187.

The third round of the trials tees off at 8 a.m. today.
