Guyanese steals American's identity
MIAMI (CMC):
A Guyanese man has been charged with stealing a New York man's identity to get a job as a flight attendant with American Eagle Airlines.
Jophan Porter, 38, who had also been living in the United States illegally, appeared in court last Saturday.
Investigations are still ongoing as authorities try to determine how Porter got through a multilayered system of federal security checks, instituted for airline employees following the 9/11 terror attacks, to be hired by American Eagle earlier this year.
The airline said it has been cooperating with authorities in the investigation.
"American Eagle Airlines can confirm that an American Eagle flight attendant has been arrested on charges involving identity theft that does not involve a customer. American Eagle is actively involved in the investigation with law enforcement authorities, including the FBI," it said in a statement.
