• Eagles beat Mystix in skittles clash

Defending champions Eagles clipped reigning Pattex Cup champions Mystix 6-5 in the feature match of the Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum skittles competition at Mystix Sports Bar, 78³/⁴ Hagley Park Road, last Sunday.

The matches (Super Sunday promotion) marked the start of the return rounds and all the matches in Division I went the distance (11 games).

Rowe's Strikers also pipped Waltham Strikers 6-5, while leaders Starliner edged former champions Eastern All-Stars 6-5.

In Zone B, contested by the weaker teams in the competition, the all-female Mystix Lady Strikers beat The Dip 6-3, Mister C also defeated Mercury 6-3 in the Spanish Town derby (rescheduled match), while Willies Strikers beat Mercury 6-3 later in the afternoon, and they also beat The Dip 6-3 in a rescheduled match.

Matches scheduled for tomorrow are as follows: Waltham Strikers vs leaders Starliner and Mystix vs Eastern All-Stars in the feature match, both at Waltham Strikers Skittles Club; Rowe's Strikers vs Dragon and Olympic vs The Dip, both at Rowe's Strikers Skittles Club (Chelsea Avenue); Lady Strikers vs closest rivals Willies Strikers and Mercury vs Portmore's Hangover, both at Mercury Skittles Club in Spanish Town. Matches commence at 1 p.m.

Starliner lead Zone A with 12 points representing six wins and a loss, while Lady Strikers are on top in Zone B with 10 points, thanks to five wins and a loss.

• MoBay Proper A on top in pool tourney

Unbeaten Montego Bay Proper A defeated Gold Room from Savanna-la-Mar 4-1 while Palm Court from Negril clipped Club 300 A 3-2 in two rural matches in the Wray & Nephew White Overproof team pool tourney, which marked its third round last weekend.

In other rural matches, Triple Diamond from Linstead defeated The Spot 3-2, and in the clash of the Old Harbour Road teams, Strawberry clipped Spot One 3-2.

Montego Bay Proper B drubbed Kendon 5-0 in Montego Bay, while Marshalls from Savanna-la-Mar edged Club 300 B 3-2.

In the lone match played in Group D, Georges from May Pen roared past Mandeville-based Flakeys 5-0. In a rescheduled Group A match played on Sunday, home team Montego Bay Proper A clipped Palm Court 3-2, but this match ended in dispute and has been referred to the Jamaica Billiards Association for a ruling.

Meanwhile, in matches contested by the Corporate Area teams, Mystix Knights from Hagley Park Road defeated Gee Wee 4-1, while Chelsea Seals completed their mission against The Invaders with a 5-0 shutout.

Chelsea Strikers clipped Hot Shots 3-2 in a tense match between the pre-tournament favourites. Hot Shots Fury crushed the RJR Group 5-0, as did Rombay over the Wray & Nephew team.

• Broilers take on LIME in BH cricket tomorrow

Defending champions Jamaica Broilers defeated National Housing Trust (NHT) by three wickets in a low-scoring Reggae Jammin 50-over Business House cricket match at Spring Village last Sunday to set up a big clash against the 2009 champion LIME at Chalmers Avenue tomorrow.

With both teams boasting a number of familiar names, players who have represented Jamaica at both the youth and senior levels, tomorrow's match, a replay of the 2010 final, should be an intriguing contest.

AT SPRING VILLAGE: Jamaica Broilers had to dig deep to beat NHT by three wickets. NHT 101 all out off 31.5 overs - Shacoya Thomas 26, Bevon Brown 24; Andre Henry 3-25, Robert Turner 2-2. Broilers 103 for seven off 29 overs - Fabian Lakeman 30, Aaron Daley Jr 16, Turner 14; Shawnlee Earle 5-19.

AT JAMALCO: LIME defeated Jamalco by five wickets. Jamalco 165 for eight off 50 overs - Maurice Kepple 52, Winston 'Sala' Osbourne 40; Yanique Elliott 2-24, Fitzroy Peterkin 2-19. LIME 167 for five off 44-2 overs - former Jamaica wicketkeeper/batsman Keith Hibbert 56, Omar Allison 33, Elliott 20, Horace Miller 16; Derrick Spence 2-37, Peat Salmon 2-41.

• Business House domino round-up

Defending Division I Business House domino champions SDC suffered their second defeat in the Wray & Nephew-sponsored competition on June 17 when going down 136-128 to Wray & Nephew in an away match at Spanish Town Road.

Another high-profile team to taste defeat was The Gleaner. Jamaica Fire Brigade clipped the 'newsmen' by two points (140-138) at York Park to avenge their first-round defeat at the Gleaner Sports Club five weeks earlier.

In other Division I fifth-round matches, former champions Seprod beat National Baking Company 127-114, Jamaica Brandy stopped Norman Manley International Airport 150-139, and Berger clipped JUTC 140-139.

In Division II, Kingston Wharves drubbed Pepsi 150-117, Courts beat JPS 150-140, NCB stopped NHT 149-132, and UWI beat Tastee 150-127.

• Petrojam on top in BH football

Defending champions Petrojam dropped their first points in the KSAFA/Western Sports Business House Division I football competition last Saturday when they played to a 2-2 draw with former champions Carib Cement at Bull Pen.

Ryan Nelson scored twice in the first half for Cement to give his team a 2-1 lead at half-time. But Aphas Bernard found the equaliser in the second half to share points. David Shultz scored for Petrojam in the first half.

Petrojam lead the standings with 10 points from four matches, representing three wins and a draw, closely followed by Wisynco, who clipped NWIA 2-1 last Saturday with goals from Premier League players Girvan Brown and Kevin Mighty. In another match played last Saturday, the 2009 champions Scotiabank blanked Wray & Nephew 5-0, thanks to three goals from Akeem Thenstead and one each from Donovan Hibbert and Richard West.

The competition continues today with Scotiabank up against Carib Cement in the feature match at Barbican starting at 5 p.m.

• Daytona to feel Portmore's heat

Red-hot defending champions Portmore United will look for another convincing win when they oppose Daytona in a Colin Fagan-sponsored Portmore Under-15 football league match at 3 p.m. at the Passagefort field on Sunday.

Last week, Portmore were ruthless as they hammered Clifton 7-0. Top striker Malique 'Messi' Foster scored a hat-trick. Zane Reid scored a brace, Kareem Barrett and Kemoy Carruthers also scored in that game.

Daytona, meanwhile, whipped Garveymeade 5-2 to register their first victory in three tries. They now face Portmore and will definitely feel some heat. In the opening game at the venue, Clifton tackle Garveymeade at 1 p.m. At Cumberland, Westchester and Wanderers clash in a curtain-raiser at 1 p.m., while at 3 p.m. Cumberland take on Portsmouth.

• Early success for Portmore Pines

Debutants Portmore Pines, in only their second game at this level, won their first-ever match in the Milo-sponsored Portmore Metropolitan U-15 Cricket League when they defeated Hamilton Gardens by three-wickets at the Hamilton Gardens ground last Sunday.

Scores: Hamilton Gardens CC 101 all out (23.4 overs; Jamar Edwards 37, Shamally James 11; Easton Levy 5-25). Portmore Pines CC 102-7 (26.2 overs; Krischan Gwans 44; Nickoy Roberts 4-22).

At Waterford High School, Washington CC whipped Cumberland by nine wickets.

Scores: Cumberland 162-8 (35 overs; Michael Brown 51, Leon Mckoy 37. Johni Brown 3-16, and Javert McNeil 2-44 took most wickets for Washington.

Washington replied with 164-1 in 27 overs with openers Javayne Taylor 53 not out, and Andre Thompson 41 piloting their team to victory. Michael Brown took 1-27 for Cumberland. At Bridgeport Sports ground Ken's Wildflower had a close 12-run victory over Reid's Pen.

• Old Harbour Bay shine in youth football

Old Harbour Bay have managed to outshine the bigger clubs in the St Catherine FA Under-15 Football League.

After eight rounds, Old Harbour Bay have maximum 18 points from six matches, this includes an important 1-0 win over Rivoli United last Sunday. Black Lions are close on their heels in second spot with 16 points with five wins and a draw following their 5-1 thrashing of DB Basovak in the last round. Vibes House United are way off the pace in third with 10 points from seven matches with only three wins. Vibes are followed by Rivoli (eight points), Frazer's Whip (eight points), Windsor Lion (six points), Federal United (five points), Village Lynx (four points), and DB Basovak (one point). Other scores from last week: Vibes House United 4 Federal United 1.

• Clarendon U-17 round-up

Coffals will host Jamalco tomorrow at Waterwell to decide the last quarter-final spot in the Claro Clarendon Under-17 league.

Coffals are favoured to join Jamalco, who have already secured their second round passage, but they must avoid defeat by seven clear goals. Last week, Coffals scored an important 5-2 win playing away to New Bowens. The win pushed them to four points, the same as Monymusk. However, Monymusk were whipped 4-0 the same afternoon by Jamalco to totally destroy their goal difference.

Humble Lions also scored an important 2-1 win over Four Paths last week, to book their place with the narrowest of margins. They finished with a zero goal difference after scoring four and conceding four, but this bettered Four Paths, who scored three and conceded four.

The other teams to secure quarter-final berths are: Sporting Athletic, York Town, Woodhall, Rio, and the select Clarendon Under-15 team.

• Jamalco are Clarendon Division One champions

Jamalco of Clarendon achieved the first milestone in a bold plan to one day have their own sponsored team in the nation's highest football league, by winning the Claro/Clarendon Division One championship last weekend.

Jamalco defeated Four Paths 2-1 in the final that was hosted at Monymusk Sports Club. The champions, who finished the league unbeaten, took charge and settled the contest well before the end of regulation time, courtesy of two goals from Markland Wright (39th, 75th mins).

Marvin Allen scored the consolation strike for the losers in the final minute of play. Both teams have now earned places in next season's Clarendon Major League.Summerfield secured third place after defeating Black Stars 2-1 in the day's curtain-raiser. It was actually Black Stars who took the lead from as early as the third minute through Anthony Duffus. However, Summerfield rallied through goals from Adrian Neish (28th) and Dale Whyte (58th).

• National striker scores in Cobbla Church league

Francois Swaby, the Sporting Central Premier League striker who made his debut two months ago for the national team against Venezuela, scored to give defending champions George North a 1-0 win over Roose Madrid in the Cobbla New Testament Church league last weekend.

Swaby's 30th-minute strike secured the champions' third straight win. They lead the standings with six points.

In two other games played, Mile Gully and Christiana battled to a 0-0 draw while Spring Ground had a 3-0 win over Richmond. The goals were scored by Milton Christopher (18th), Rojel Mills (40th) and Kingsley Thousand (70th).

The competition continues tomorrow at the Cobbla Youth Camp with two matches. At 2 p.m. Napoli take on West Road while at 4 p.m. Gully Strikers entertain Contrivance.

• 'Los P' make strides in women's football

Last year's beaten Sherwin Williams national women's football league finalists, Los Perfectos, whipped new entrants St Thomas Strikers 6-0 at Brook's Park last weekend.

Striker Simone Honeyghan netted two second-half goals, while there was one each for captain Sashana Campbell, Carla Daniels, Nugene Nugent and Shanica Williams, as the Mandeville-based team won their second game of the season. They now have seven points from three games. Their earlier games ended 2-1 over Trelawny and 0-0 against Waterhouse.

The rout continued St Thomas' winless run, having lost four straight games while conceding a whopping 24 goals. It could have been worse had it not been for several good efforts in goal by Anika McNaught. While there were fairly decent skills shown by captain Sheron Cousins and winger Kerron Sterling, the Los P side were far superior in ball possession.

Assistant coach for Los Perfectos, Omar Brooks, who issued instructions from the bench on Saturday, was happy with the win, saying it will shape the way the side perform for the rest of the season.

"This win was a good boost as this year is like a transition process where we want to improve each game," cited Brooks.

St Thomas coach Lesta Bernard confessed that his young side were still learning the basics of the game.

"The average age is about 16, so not much is expected in the first year, as most of them are still in high school and learning the game," Bernard told The Gleaner.

Notwithstanding the heavy scores conceded so far, he said his team is not demotivated.

• Wanderers hunt football glory

Favourites Wanderers will be seeking football glory when they they take on Cumberland in the final of the Leander Marshall-sponsored Portmore Under-13 Football League final this afternoon at the Passagefort field starting at 3 p.m.

In last week's semi-finals, Wanderers boot Garveymeade 2-0, courtesy of goals from Alex Marshall and Shimar Simpson, while Cumberland came from 2-0 down to dispose of Waterford 4-2.

• Studds, Mile Gully in Manchester U-17 final today

Mile Gully Youths and Studds will meet in today's final of the Manchester Under-17 league, sponsored by Power Services Company Limited.The game will be hosted at the Kirkvine Sports Club.

Studds, former Under-15 champions in the Western Union Porus Under-15 league, stopped Hillstars 1-0 on a Oshane Newman strike in their semi-finals on Wednesday. Mile Gully Youths got the better of Kendal 2-0 on Thursday.

Interestingly, both teams competed in the same preliminary zone, where Mile Gully Youths had a convincing 4-0 win.
