India took a 1-0 lead in the three-Test Digicel series on Thursday at Sabina Park when they defeated the West Indies by 63 runs. The tourists needed just 30 minutes after lunch on the fourth day to complete victory.

Final scores: India 256 and 252, West Indies 173 and 262.

While the standard of cricket for the three-plus days the Test lasted was not of the highest level, the game provided a lot of entertainment for the spectators who turned up.

West Indies bowled well to dismiss India for a first innings 256. The tourists were in deep trouble at 85 for six, but thanks to a 146-run seventh-wicket stand between Suresh Raina (82) and Harbhajan Singh (70) they recovered to post a competitive total. The early destroyers were Fidel Edwards (4 for 56), Ravi Rampaul (3 for 59) and Devendra Bishoo (3 for 75).

The West Indies were dismissed for 173 in their first innings with Adrian Barath getting a solid 64 while the rest of the batting failed.

Rahul Dravid's 32nd Test century ensured that India set the West Indies a very demanding winning target on a Sabina Park wicket which gave some help to the bowlers throughout. West Indies captain Darren Sammy and Bishoo each bagged four wickets.

Barath (38) again did well when the West Indies began their run chase but none of the other batsmen were able to stay at the wicket long enough to deny the Indians. Darren Bravo top-scored with 41 against India's opening bowlers Ishant Sharma and Kumar, who took three wickets each.
