Ticket sales going 'tremendously well' - Rhone

SINGAPORE:Jamaica's Molly Rhone, president of the International Federation of Netball Associa-tions (IFNA), is very pleased with ticket sales for this year's World Netball Championships, which begins here tomorrow.

The tournament, which is held every four years, will from run from July 3-10 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Rhone, who has been nominated unopposed to serve a third consecutive term as head of the sport's world governing body, told The Gleaner that her administration is amazed with the support that they have received from not only fans in Singapore, but also around the world.

"It (ticket sales) has been going tremendously well. They (Singapore) started their ticket sales from a year ago and so they had their platinum set, which went within weeks of it being on the market," said Rhone, who is also a former president of the Jamaica Netball Association.

"They have also shared the tickets - platinum, gold and silver - and so the sales have gone very well and I am amazed by this," she expressed.

Rhone added that she is expecting a very exciting tournament from all teams taking part because the top four teams are evenly matched, likewise those in the other segment.

"We have 16 teams here and I am really expecting some exciting games from them in this championship. But what else can you expect?" said Rhone. "We have a lot of spectators from around the world and this is an opportunity for us to showcase the sport at the highest level, and I am expecting some really competitive games from all the groups," she said.

Continuing, Rhone said: "A lot of people talk about the top four, which is a good thing because we used to talk about the top two and now we are talking about the top four."

The president noted that she is very thankful that she has been chosen to serve another four-year term as the head of IFNA.

"It is a honour," said Rhone. "I am humbled and I am also pleased because I think that my team and I have done a great job for netball," she said. "The profile of the game has changed because of the new administrative governance structure that we have managed to instill in this organisation," Rhone reasoned.
