Ride the Knutsford Express to Little Ochie Seafood Carnival

Published:Thursday | July 7, 2011 | 12:00 AM

The Knutsford Express is the official transportation for this weekend's Bigga Little Ochie Seafood Carnival, a decision which was prompted by the enquiries of many would-be patrons. Many persons attending the event would prefer to relax and be driven, rather than driving themselves to and from the event.

Unlike other years, the Bigga Little Ochie Seafood Carnival will take place over three days - Friday, July 8 to Sunday, July 10. Friday will be dubbed 'Seafood After Dark', encouraging individuals to come out and enjoy the variety of seafood, music and bonfires on the beach. The atmosphere will be similar to the big day, minus the sun and the crowd, making it an excellent way to jam with friends after work.

Saturday, July 9, will be the fishermen's day, with focus on the final catch and weighing of the lionfish. The competition is well on the way, as fishermen catch and deliver their fish to the Little Ochie Restaurant in Alligator Pond. They are extremely happy that Little Ochie is purchasing the fish and preparing it for their customers, as they agree that this is the only way that they will be able to save the traditional fish in our waters. The Lionfish Tournament is endorsed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Jamaica Tourist Board.

Sunday's activities will include the usual wide assortment of seafood dishes and lots of music, headed by Byron Lee's Dragonnaires, a range of exhibits, and a play area for children. The highlight of the day will be the Lionfish Cook Off, which is a test of student and professional chefs having the best or most interesting lionfish recipe. The objective of the cook off is to encourage the preparation and eating of the lionfish in order to deplete its population.
