WESTERN BUREAU:

Artist Nando Fisher's Bob Marley and friends painting served as the perfect backdrop for Summerfest Production's Reggae Sumfest 2011 Montego Bay launch at the Iberostar's Rose Hall Suites Blue Moon bar Tuesday night.

Nothing close to the semi-Reggae Sumfest crowd that invaded the grounds of Devon House last Wednesday night, Tuesday's event was well supported by an intimate group of Montegonians and sponsors who have remained committed to the annual festival, billed 'the greatest reggae show on earth'.

"All systems are up and running, as we take over the tourism capital from July 17-23," said Robert Russell, the event's chairman.

Russell had a lot to boast about, having led the charge to improve the Catherine Hall venue this year, promising that there will be no repeat of last year's 'mud fest'.

Having enticed reggae ambassador Beres Hammond to share the stage with American R&B singer-songwriter, arranger, performer and record producer R Kelly on International Night One was also a major coup that he could brag about.

While Russell spoke glowingly of the annual event, Peter Tosh (wearing midnight dark glasses), the late King of Reggae, 'sat' behind him in a picture 'peering' over his shoulders. So was Family Man and Junior Mervin, obviously giving the thumbs up to this year's event.
