Studio 38 is expected to be the life of St Andrew on Tuesday when it presents new sensation Laza Morgan and Denroy Morgan in a father-son combo that signals the passing of the torch. Laza, Jamaica's newest international hit-maker with his runaway monster One By One, will share the stage with his legendary father, Denroy Morgan, singer of the worldwide No. 1 hit I'll Do Anything For You.

Laza is the most recent product from a family that boasts the likes of Morgan Heritage, which includes solo acts Gramps Morgan and Una Morgan.

This unique event represents the continuation of Studio 38's live music tradition.

In under two years, Studio 38 has managed to feature some of the best acts in the music business like Tarrus Riley, Beres Hammond, Mavado, Tanya Stephens, Gregory Isaacs (in his last concert), Lady Saw, Tami Chynn and Tessanne Chin, John Holt, Assassin, Freddie McGregor, Ken Booth, Beenie Man, Toots and the Maytals, Ernie Smith, U-Roy and a host of others.

The intimate yet lively atmosphere makes the ideal setting for this never-before-seen performance which is the first of many summer stage shows to come at Studio 38.

One by One: Passing the Torch marks the debut performance on local shores for the United States-based artiste ahead of his local summer tour and it seems like the perfect way to start a promising season.

Laza's One by One is currently enjoying heavy radio rotation, is a smash hit on the Internet and has become a major club hit as well. His single This Girl is also attracting wide international attention. His style clearly distinguishes his work from that of his brothers and sisters of Morgan Heritage.

Common factor

However, both bodies of work share a common factor, relatable and enjoyable music.

"I'm doing things I never thought I would be doing with my voice," explained Laza about his mix of hip hop and reggae.

Laza's musical career began when he was part of the musical group LMS. However, his rise to fame began last year when his two singles, Wiggle and This Girl, were featured in the popular dance movie, Step Up 3D. The songs' infectious beats, unique genre synergies and the distinctive sound of Laza's voice (often compared to another US-based Jamaican superstar Sean Kingston) poise the artiste for even greater success.

This commercial success is likely to mirror his father's.

Denroy Morgan enjoyed tremendous commercial success in the 1970s and '80s with such hits as I'll Do Anything For You, Happy Feeling and Make My Day.

One by One: Passing on the Torch is presented in association with ZIP FM, KOOL FM, HOT 102 FM and Red Stripe.
