A new champion will be crowned in the 2011 LIME Cup team match-play golf tournament, as two-time defending champions, the Buccaneers of Appleton Estate; despite a valiant 11th hour attempt, have ended the preliminary round outside the top two, leaving the undefeated Advantage Generals and the JustBet Springs to contest the title match on July 23 at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course in Montego Bay.

The Advantage Generals marched to five consecutive victories and a perfect 15 points record to underline their dominance this year, after falling to the Buccaneers at the final hurdle over the past two years.

They solidified their position atop the table with a pair of victories in the fourth and fifth rounds of competition last Saturday, at the Caymanas Golf Club in St Catherine.

The Generals first dismissed the Pan Caribbean Jaguars 6.5 to 3.5 in their opening contest before rounding off the day with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over the Lime Lions.

Their opponents in the final, the JustBet Springs scored an important 5.5 to 4.5 triumph over the Buccaneers of Appleton Estate in their Round Four fixture before pushing their tally to nine points and jumping into second place with a narrow 3-2 win over the Pan Caribbean Jaguars in their final preliminary round assignment

Last-day effort

Metry Seaga's Buccaneers of Appleton made a valiant last-day effort to get into contention for a spot in the final, bouncing back from their loss to the JustBet Springs to outmuscle the SportsMax MaxPak 4.5 to 0.5. Like the Springs, the Buccaneers ended the preliminary round on nine points but lost out on another shot at the title due to an inferior net match point to the Springs.

The SportsMax MaxPak will face the Buccaneers of Appleton Estate in the third and fourth place matchup after closing out on six points; beating the Lime Lion 6-4 in round four before suffering that heavy defeat to the Buccaneers in the final preliminary round match.

The Pan Caribbean Jaguars and the Lime Lions both struggled to three preliminary round points and will face each other in the cellar fifth and sixth place contest.
