The right vibes - First outing for new event goes well
Krista Henry, Staff Reporter
With a full moon, the ocean and a bonfire as the backdrop, the vibes couldn't be anything but right at the rockers party, 'Vibes Is Right' at Wickie Wackie Beach last Saturday.
While the venue was fashionably decorated, there still remained a relaxing environment. Along with the music from the popular Lees Unlimited, patrons felt welcome very early.
As is traditionally the case, Lees Unlimited played strictly from vinyl, and began making a good impression on the crowd with their collection of local music.
When Lees took a break, Kumar Bent from the Raging Fyah Band was on hand to bring smiles to patrons faces.
With the right ambience already set, patrons sat by a fire, danced, chatted with friends or visited the vegetarian-food area throughout the night.
mixed crowd
The first edition of the party, Vibes Is Right, saw a mixed crowd of young and old. Young persons learnt a few of the selections, while the older crowd danced the night away. Selections from the likes of Michael Hall, Sylford Walker, Police and Thieves by Junior Murvin, non-rockers music like Gregory Isaacs' Red Red Wine, and a few for incarcerated singer Buju Banton such as Til Shiloh, kept the vibe strong. Persons of note in the crowd included Lawrence Tulloch of Rose & Company; Headline Entertainment's Jerome Hamilton; Mutabaruka and his wife, 'Sis Jackie'; artistes Protoje, Raging Fyah, Jah9 and Kabaka Pyramid.
Vibes Is Right promised music, but that didn't come from just vinyl as patrons also got a treat with live performances from Jah9, Protoje, Raging Fyah, Kabaka Pyramid and Hempress Sativa who 'touched' the microphone and freestyled for the crowd.
