Top-of-the-table clash ends in no decision

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):

A match that promised so much delivered very little, leaving hosts Guyana to question their own country's fickle weather which reduced their top-of-the-table clash with Jamaica to a no decision in the WICB Regional Under-19 Championship yesterday.

Jamaica, choosing to bat, had wobbled to 86 for five, when rain stopped play eight minutes before lunch on the final day of the badly weather-affected second round contest at Bourda Oval.

But the weather beaten outfield could hardly take another drop, and the players never returned following the interval.

Jamaica are now second in the competition with 15.6 points, with Guyana third 0.1 points behind. Barbados lead with 16.1 points

The Jamaicans face the Barbadians at Eve Leary in the third round, which opens tomorrow when Guyana meet Trinidad & Tobago at Everest.

When play started, Jamaica lost Oshane Walters caught behind for a duck, playing tentatively forward to Clinton Pestano.

John Campbell, a scorer of three hundreds for West Indies Under-19s against the United States Under-19s earlier this month in Florida, played some exciting strokes in his brief stay.

But Pestano struck an important blow, when he had the left-hander caught at short mid-wicket for 16, essaying a pull.

AT GUYANA NATIONAL STADIUM: Trinidad & Tobago completed an eight-wicket victory over reigning champions Windward Islands.

Scores: Trinidad & Tobago 271 (Akeal Hosein 68, Kieron Joseph 38; Ray Jordan 6-60) and 10 for two.

Windward Islands 121 (Kavem Hodge 50, Sunil Ambris 34; Derone Davis 5-45) and 159 (Kavem Hodge 33; Jovan Ali 5-52, Idrees Mohammed 2-25).

AT DEMERARA CRICKET CLUB: A no-decision has been declared between Leeward Islands and Barbados Cricket Club.

Scores: Leeward Islands 39 for two vs Barbados.
