Fletcher new WICUA president

Jamaica's Cecil Fletcher was last week elected the new president of the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association (WICUA) during the 25th staging of the Biennial Convention of the WICUA in St Lucia.

Fletcher was unopposed after outgoing president, Steve Bucknor, decided not to seek re-election. Bucknor did not attend the convention.

Fletcher will, throughout his tenure, have two Jamaicans, Vivian Johnson and Norman Malcolm, serving alongside him.

Johnson and Malcolm were re-elected unopposed as secretary and treasurer/assistant secretary, respectively.

Also serving on the executive will be Tony Lalacksingh, executive vice-president; Billy Doctrove; Clancy Mack; Fitzroy Hayles; Ernest Hinds; and Clyde Cumberbatch.

Jamaica's Lloyd George Hill was retained as legal counsel for the organisation.

Meanwhile, renowned regional commentator Joseph 'Reds' Perriera was also declared patron of the association for the next two years at the convention.

Perriera, in receiving the accolade, gracefully accepted the invitation and indicated that he was always a friend of cricket umpires, and was humbled by the honour.

The next convention will be held in Trinidad and Tobago in 2013.

Jamaica's 28-member delegation to the convention was scheduled to return home yesterday.
