Treasure Beach ease past Junction in SDC Twenty20

Treasure Beach defeated their St Elizabeth neighbours Junction by six wickets as the Social Development Commission (SDC) National Twenty20 cricket competition got in high gear at the Comfort Sports Complex in Manchester on Sunday.

Junction, batting first, made 159 for seven in their allotted 20 overs. Kenroy Williams top-scored with 49 while captain Troy Powell and Owane Holness supported with 23 and 21, respectively. Kamal Dennis picked up two wickets for 24 runs.

Treasure Beach were set a revised total of 91 runs to win from 10 overs due to the intervention of rain. They started off on a positive note, chalking up 28 runs without loss off two overs. However, Junction fought back and had Treasure Beach at 37 runs for three wickets off four overs.

Needing a further 43 runs to win from five overs, Kamal Dennis settled the ship by playing an enterprising innings. He hit three consecutive sixes in the seventh over and brought it down to 14 runs to win from 15 balls. Treasure Beach eased to victory with Kamal Dennis hitting a six to seal victory after they needed two runs to win from two balls.

In the earlier game, Race Course of Clarendon defeated French Park of Manchester by eight wickets. Batting first, French Park made 73 all out off 18.5 overs. Rushane Pottinger bagged four wickets for five runs.

Race Course batted very well and cantered home to victory for the loss of just two wickets off 18 overs. Wayne Davis top-scored with 49 not out.

The next round of matches in the South Central Zone will be on August 21 at Bushy Park Sports Ground, Clarendon. Race Course will go up against Junction at 10 a.m. and French Park will do battle with Treasure Beach at 2 p.m.
