Mairs, Wilson suspended

Apprentice Richard Mairs, who rode SHEZA SURVIVALIST in third race at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, July 20, has been slapped with a two-day suspension by the stewards for careless riding.

Mairs finished a strong second to DISTANT SUNSET over 1200 metres in the race in question, but following a stewards' inquiry, SHEZA SURVIVALIST was disqualified and placed third for causing interference to third-past-the-post MR NICK when drifting out in the final 100 metres. His suspension takes effect from the Emancipation Day meet on Monday, August 1.

Jockey Rayan Wilson also faced the stewards on Tuesday for two cases of improper riding, and in one instance was slapped with a four-day ban for careless riding aboard OUT FOR JUSTICE in the 10th race on Wednesday, July 20.

Intimidation

Wilson was suspended for the intimidation caused to SPIRIT WAY between the half mile and 600-metre point of the course. He was also fined $3,000 for his ungentlemanly conduct in an altercation with apprentice Vijay Ashley passing the winning post. This suspension takes effect on Saturday, August 6 (Independence Day).

Aboard WISE FIT in the eighth race on Saturday, July 16, Wilson was further cautioned for the interference caused to MARHABBA in the vicinity of the half mile.

Apprentice Riders Robert Halledeen and Jevvanne Erwin, along with jockey Oral Bennett, also faced the stewards for recent riding infringements.The stewards accepted the explanations of both Hallendeen and Erwin, aboard PRINCECHAD and the winning horse ELOPING EMMA, respectively, but Bennett was fined $7,500 for his failure to dismount from an injured horse, FRENCH ROGUE in the 11th race on July 9.
