Doug Gore aiming for big day at Dover

It's now or never for Doug 'Hollywood' Gore and his Audi TT, as he make another bold bid to end the winning streak of David Summerbell and his Mitsubishi Evolution 8, at next Sunday's Independence Dover race meet, St Ann.

"I am feeling much more comfortable now with the car, which is in excellent condition, tip top form, boasted Gore, who has been seen at Dover practising under the watchful eyes of a German mechanic.

Gore confirmed that he brought down the German mechanic to assist him with his pre-race meet preparations.

"He has taught me so much about the car," a confident Gore told The Gleaner on Friday.

Summerbell, who was at Thursday's press briefing to launch the Independence race meet, is not intimidated by Gore's words and is inviting him to bring on the challenge.

Gearing up

In the meantime, veteran racer Peter Rae and a host of other drivers such as George Bailey, Kyle Gregg, Teddy Burton, Alan Chen and Chris Campbell are gearing up for what promises to be a spectacle of racing prowess and skill.

With improved and impressive cars, both outside and under the hood, Rae says the various camps have been intensely preparing physically and mentally for the challenges ahead.

With 16 races scheduled and 18 motorcyclists down to compete, the first event will get under way at 9 a.m.

President of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club, Hilary Jardene, has promised that the faithful patrons, many of whom brave long distances to be in attendance, can look forward to new roads, a better food court and an overall better Dover experience.

Lamenting the constraints that plagued the event in former years, president Jardene has assured the public that problems like parking and getting in and out of Dover are worries of the past.

Chris Campbell in his upgraded BMW is expected to take the fight to Gore and Summerbell in the Thundersport Class. Other drivers expected to join in the battle for supremacy are Dean Shaw, Andre Anderson, Heath Causewell and Charles Chen.

Not to be left out, the riders including the country's number one-ranked Stephan Chin, Halquin Rodney, Adrian Blake and Jason Flynn will be on the track to heighten the excitement at Dover.

Some of the drivers will be using this meet as part of their preparation for the second leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship, which is scheduled for Barbados on August 28. Six drivers will represent Jamaica. They are Summerbell, Rae, Campbell, Andre Anderson, Dean Shaw and George Bailey.
