Jamaica fifth in Hoerman Cup

Jamaica's Hoerman Cup team is in fifth spot following yesterday's second day's play at the Caribbean Amateur Golf Cham-pionships in Trinidad & Tobago, where nine countries are contesting several titles.

Fabian Campbell shot 74 to take the low gross on the Jamaican side. Jonathan Newnham was one stroke behind on 75 and Matthew Smith followed up with 77. Puerto Rico are in front of the field with an 11-stroke lead.

In the Francis & Steele-Perkins Cup for seniors, Robert Chin and Greg Chong are in eighth spot on six over par, well behind leaders Trinidad and Tobago, who are on 11 under par.

The amateur duo of Sean Morris and Keith Stein slipped into seventh place with a combined score of 71. The team from the Dominican Republic are leaders in the Ramon Baez Trophy competition.

In the Higgs and Higgs Trophy, Super Seniors Dennis Atkinson and Fred Sutherland are in joint third on 148 with Trinidad and Tobago. The leaders are the Bahamas on 142.

The ladies team of Jodi Barrow (82), Leiza Blakeley (88) and Michelle Gabay (93) did not improve their lot yesterday and remain in sixth position. The Trinidadian (299) ladies lost their hold on the lead, with Puerto Rico (297) forging ahead by two strokes.
