Toyota Jamaica Limited and Crichton Automotive Ltd came out with top honours as the new- and used-car dealers, respectively, in Scotiabank's appre-ciation presentation party at Devon House, St Andrew, two Friday's ago.

Crichton Automotive Ltd was winning the award for a second year in a row.

The event, dubbed 'Get Revved Up', also saw the financial institution lauding its staff for consistent support.

Wayne Powell, Scotiabank's executive vice-president, used the opportunity to recognise the strong partnership the auto industry has had with his organisation.

"The auto industry has had a challenging year, with the impact of the global recession and, more recently, the tsunami in Japan. However, the reduction in import duties has provided the industry with a well-needed boost which can now be felt by both our dealers and our customers. Scotiabank will continue to lead the way in offering exciting and innovative features that will benefit both the auto dealers and the final-end user," he said.

Powell concluded by pledging his commitment and support to the resurgence of the new- and used-car industries.

Going the extra mile

Kirk Crichton, managing director of Crichton Automotive, gave his team credit for their efforts in having a second lien on the award.

"This is a testament to our policy of giving the customer more than they expect. And this thinking has been instilled in our staff," he said.

Crichton said the synergy with Scotiabank is definitely "paying rewards" for the industry. He also lauded the Government for its move to reduce import duties on motor vehicles, as this assisted in driving up sales.

Tracy-Ann Fletcher, assistant marketing manager at the Spanish Town Road-based Toyota Jamaica, was elated at lifting the top new-car dealer award.

"We at Toyota Jamaica feel great at winning the award and it's a good morale booster for the staff," Fletcher told Automotives.

She attributed Toyota's success to the "complete package" it offers customers.

"It's the brand, the quality and the expertise. You can't get it any better anywhere else," Fletcher said.
