A 'Castle of Memories' - St Andrew's summer production a success
For three days, July 28-30, the assembly hall at St Andrew High School (SAHS) for Girls was transformed into the common room of Scotia dorm, one of four. This was the setting for the Cecelio Avenue-based institution's 2011 production titled 'Castle of Memories'.
The story begins with a feisty Patrice, played by Imani Deer, declaring that she did not like to work in mud. But as the tribulations of fate continued to plague her, she came to the realisation that boarding life was more than communal living. It is about camaraderie, fun, and packed with a lot of unexpected moments. And so, when the school's administration decided to close all four boarding facilities, Patrice, along with the other main players, decided to take action - it was a plan to save the dorm. But how successful were they in doing so? The ending would have surprised you.
The Maureen Chang set was brightly coloured and it was matched by some fantastic acting from the SAHS students, guest performers Ricardo Benguche, Kadeen Guyah (a teacher) and Christine Benguche (a parent).
The overall feedback was that it was a very good production. The language of the Marcia Rowe-written script was humorous and relevant to all age groups. What is a dorm without ghosts? Pinkie (centre) - Britnie Jackson - and Peggie (Alicia Walker) discusses the project, unknown to the students.
