Slippery Wen Wett - Driving fest set for Junction next Sunday
The Pines Plaza in Junction, St Elizabeth, will come alive with adrenaline-filled fun on August 21,with the staging of Slippery Wen Wett - Gymkhana Edition, starting at 1 p.m.
Event promoter Kingsley Scott said this year's staging of the annual driving fest will be different from previous ones.
"This year's event is sanctioned by Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC). In fact, it is the official JMMC dexterity competition number two," he said. "And, points gained by drivers from in this meet will go towards the overall dexterity championship."
Scott explained the gymkhana edition should see drivers navigating several obstacles on a course set out with cones, tyres and directional signs. Drifting is also encouraged where helpful or necessary.
"This will be done in first and second gears. The drivers will be required to make 90 to 360 turns," the promoter said.
"We'll see who's the best driver on the day."
Over 30 competitors
Scott said he expected 30 to 35 competitors, and should bring out the sport's big names including Maurice Whittingham, reigning rear-wheel drive dexterity Montego Bay champion; Jordan Powell, front-wheel drive champion; Cleve 'Cutta Hype' Ottey; Alan Chen; Randal and Sanjay Singh; Hayman brothers from Clarendon; Mark Thompson; Christopher 'Chippy' Addison; and, Dennis Bicaria.
Admission is $300 for children and $800 for adults. There will be an early bird, two-for-one special of $1,300.
"There'll be half-time entertainment of radio-controlled cars, motorcycles and helicopters," Scott said. "Come out and bring the entire family. It's gonna be clean family fun."
