Liane Chung is the second Miss Jamaica World finalist
- Contestant wins beach beauty pageant
Like last year, the rains followed the Miss Jamaica World Beach Beauty competition.
The show went on despite the showers that came down just minutes after the scheduled 2 p.m. start time. Walking away with the title of Venus Embrace Miss Jamaica World Beach Beauty was Liane Chung, Miss Venus Embrace. Second was Zahra McGraham Miss Usain Bolt Tracks and Records, and Miss Osmosis Kayla Mendes took the third spot.
It was a highly competitive competition, as the judges were at odds as to which of the girls were to be selected for the top three.
Instead, the judges first chose a top five and had them parade once more to make a final decision.
Top five
The top five consisted of Kayla Mendes, Arielle Foote, Liane Chung, Chavoy Gordon and Zahra McGraham.
It was now down to the six judges to make their final decision as to which three would make the cut. The judges were Mickey Haughton James (Miss Jamaica World franchise holder), Karl Williams (designer of Uzuri International), Marcel Robinson (CEO Interlinc communication, website developers), Gareth Ramsey represented Dimitris Kosvogiannis (general manager of Grand Palladium); Sara Lawrence (Miss World Caribbean Continental Queen of Beauty 2006) and Tracey Hamilton (CEO of Tracey Hamilton & Associates PR). The guests of the resort were given the opportunity to be the 7th judge on the panel with the People's Choice Vote. This award went to Miss Appleton Jamaica Rum, Chavoy Gordon.
Prior to the choosing of the 20 contestants paraded in Mushroom-designed Venus Embrace swimsuits.
The winner was ultimately chosen based on the following criteria: beauty of body, beauty of face, sex appeal and presentation. The swimsuits were vibrant and eye-catching. There were several catcalls in the audience as the patrons were pleased with the physique of the girls, making it hard for many of them to choose one winner.
After lengthy deliberations, MCs Denise Hunt and Regina Beavers invited the ladies back onstage in bright sunshine, and spirits were high when Chung was announced as the winner.
Chung has now been guaranteed an automatic spot among the top 10 at September 10 coronation night. The contestant joins Miss Maybelline New York, Maya Wilkinson, who fast-tracked as the SoftSheen-Carson Miss Jamaica World Model winner.
The next fast-track competition will be talent on August 23, 2011 at Club Privilege.
