Corinaldi are the champions

Corinaldi 'B' emerged 2011 St James Netball Association (StJNA) Junior League champions on Sunday afternoon when they humbled Blazers 'B' 17-9 in the final played at the Montego Bay Boys' Club courts, in St James.

In the play-off for third place, Montego Bay Boys' Club scored a big 27-5 win over Cyclone. Eight teams took part in the competition.

In the final, Corinaldi 'B' team, made up of teachers and past and present students of Corinaldi Avenue Primary School, proved too robust for their Blazers opponents in a game that was contentious at times.

Devony Clarke with 14 goals and Samantha Irving with three, were the scorers for the Corinaldi team, which was well serviced in defence by the 'twin towers' Deon Tinglin and Jacinth Carey. Sashana Foster and Shaneca Forbes, with five and four goals, respectively, were the scorers for Blazers.

Sweet revenge

"This Blazers team beat us in the preliminary round so today's win was sweet revenge for that defeat," said Dajohnnie Hamil, captain of Corinaldi. "We are really happy and proud with the way we played and I believe we are deserving winners."

For manager/coach Tinglin, who heads the physical education department at Corinaldi Avenue Primary School, the win was just a continuation of the school's impressive netball tradition.

"We are a school where netball holds pride of place," said Tinglin. "Over the years we have been turning out excellent netballers and it should be noted that we have been the St James primary school champions for the past three years."
