Promoter Christopher Brown went into the party kitchen and used the ingredients of the E-N Bloc venue, along with the tranquil feeling of a Sunday, and came up with the concept of Sundaze on the Block.

The twice-monthly party in New Kingston, on the first and final Sunday of each month, promises to deliver a new experience. It will be held at 2A Chelsea Avenue.

Dubbed the ultimate romantic couples experience, Sundaze on the Block is a retro party targeting a mature audience which wants to relive the rock away nights, where couples danced close.

According to Brown, who spoke The Gleaner on behalf of the M&M Promotions team, "There is a gap in Kingston on Sundays that this party will fill. On Sundays, people want somewhere to go where they can chill, and there are not many options." The promoter says that couples haven't been dancing together anymore and promises that this event will bring back love and companionship on the dance floor.

"We will bring back the couples vibe and, believe me, there are people out there who appreciate real retro music," he said.

The event is free - for now - and goes from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. The promoters encourage potential patrons to tick every first and last Sunday on their calendars to keep the event in mind. "For now, admission is free for all because we are in the baby stage of the event, but as the vibe develops there will be a cost for men. But women will always be free," said Brown.

He said that the retro party is not the typical throwback music event that is fixated on '90s music, yet claims to be retro. "Sundaze is a real authentic retro party; we go back to the '60s, back when music was music, some real timeless selections in a comfortable environment," he said.

Music for Sundaze on the Block will be presented by veteran DJs Welton Irie and Alonzo Hawk.

The dress code stipulates no slippers or sneakers and there will be drink specials on Rum Bar and Appleton mixes for the entire night. Brown said there will be a detox system in place. He also said that non-alcoholic beverages will be available for patrons who do not wish to drink hard liquor.

"It's a different party from the regular. It has an outdoor-club type of vibe, the environment is good for relaxation. Just come out and treat your lover to some good music," Brown concluded.
