Alaine, John Holt to headline Miss Jamaica World Talent
The Spartan Health Club has garnered a reputation for having some of the best bodies around from athletes to artistes alike.
The club has also produced some of the many beach-body finalists at the internationally acclaimed Miss World pageant. This year will be no different as the organisers are stepping it up a notch to ensure that this year's Miss Jamaica World staging maintains its status as one of the most anticipated events on the entertainment calendar. The buzz has started with the various fast-track competitions that have been staged, SoftSheen-Carson Model and Venus Embrace Beach Beauty.
Today, the third fast-track competition will be staged, the Miss Jamaica World Talent, at the newly opened Spartan Health Club Wellness Centre.
The talent show promises to be an explosive display of Jamaican beauties who will display their ability to perform. The headline acts for the event aren't to be left out as veteran reggae artiste John Holt and songstress Alaine are billed to perform.
true talent
Alaine Laughton, the vivacious singer-songwriter/producer, has established herself in the reggae music industry as a true talent. Her bubbly, warm personality, effervescent smile and unforgettable songs have placed her in a league of her own. She grew up studying piano, acting and singing onstage, radio and television, so the stage was a right fit for her path to stardom. After giving up a career in investment banking in New York to pursue her music career, Alaine has not looked back and she headed home, where she began working and recording songs with many of Jamaica's top producers.
A very versatile recording artiste, Alaine has penned songs with R&B flavours such as No Ordinary Love, Sacrifice and Rise in Love as well as authentic dancehall hits such as Wine Make Me Weak and Gi Yuh What U Want.
Alaine released two successful albums in Japan. Sacrifice (Avex, 2007) and Luv-a-dub (Koyashi Haikyu, 2009).
2010 saw Alaine's career further expanding with the formation of her record label 1Thirty1 Records. You are Me, the company's first release, is a powerful song inspired by the violent events which took place in Tivoli Gardens.
Alaine also made her first trip to Africa, headlining the sold-out Sepetuka in Nairobi, Kenya, performing to a crowd of 12,000 for which she was awarded Performance of the Year at the Kingston 10 Reggae Awards.
She later inked an endorsement deal with telecommunications giant Lime for her collaboration with world-renowned superstar Shaggy for their smash hit For Yur Eyez Only.
Six years after her return home, this beautiful, gifted musician, in the words of her songs, is Still Smiling and continues to rise Up Up Up. Alaine promises a "great show" come today. "I'm really looking forward to giving it my all and really enjoying every minute of it, so people can come out and expect a performance filled with Love, love, love," she said.
