Burger King Friendly polo
Perfect duos, Gabriella Ralston (Jamaica) and Shantal Fontana (Venezuela); Jordon Williams (Jamaica) and Hannah Afrik (USA); and Sayan Johnston (Jamaica) partnered with Adele Stollmeyer (Trinidad and Tobago), were the top winning teams at the Burger King Friendly International held at St Ann's Polo Club and Equestrian Centre recently.
Perfect duos, Gabriella Ralston (Jamaica) and Shantal Fontana (Venezuela); Jordon Williams (Jamaica) and Hannah Afrik (USA); and Sayan Johnston (Jamaica) partnered with Adele Stollmeyer (Trinidad and Tobago), were the top winning teams at the Burger King Friendly International held at St Ann's Polo Club and Equestrian Centre recently.
All the riders in the Burger King Friendly International took part in teams consisting of one Jamaican rider and a guest from a foreign country - training and competing together, and, of course, celebrating their success together. Eighteen local riders shared their horses with riders representing the USA, Venezuela, China, England, Bermuda, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados.
The competition was divided into three levels, which were dependent on the horse's ability and the ages of the riders. There were two 15-18 groups (juniors) and one 14 and under group (children's).
Local rider Gabriella Ralston partnered with Shantal Fontana of Venezuela on MISS FRAN to place first in Group 1. These two competitors had fantastic clear rounds for both days of the competition. Group 2 juniors, Jordon Williams of Jamaica and Hannah Afrik from the USA, also sailed clear to place first without faults for both days on their mount PHOENIX.
The 14 and under duo of local rider Sayan Johnston and Adele Stollmeyer of Trinidad and Tobago, with no faults on speed demon DOMINO, were first-place winners for the children's competition.
Burger King's marketing manager, Denise Dixon, was present to hand out trophies and rosettes to all riders who enjoyed our true Jamaican hospitality at Dolphin Cove, Mystic Mountain and Chukka Caribbean.

Thomas, McLeod slam BH centuries
Centuries by former Jamaica and West Indies Under-19 player Shacoya Thomas (119) and Michael McLeod (106 not out) highlighted the eighth and penultimate round of the Reggae Jammin Business House 50-over league last Sunday. Both centuries were scored in the same match at the De la Vega Community Centre.
Thomas, an opening batsman, spearheaded National Housing Trust to a seven-run win over JUTC, for whom middle-order batsman McLeod hit an unbeaten century.
Batting first, JUTC made 237 for eight off their allotted 50 overs - McLeod 106 not out, Junior Stewart 46, Junior Morrison 25; new West Indies selectee for the upcoming English tour, Nkrumah Bonner, took 2-46, Quennue McKinson 2-43. NHT replied with 244 for three - Thomas slamming an aggressive 119, Herman Henry 64, Bonner 33 not out; Brian Mighton 2-32.
AT JAMALCO: Defending champions Jamaica Broilers beat Jamalco by four runs in a close contest. Broilers 148 all out in 41.3 overs - Oraine Williams 35, Fabian Lakeman and Aaron Daley Jr 26 each; Errol Thomas Jr 3-28, Peteray Lewis 2-23. Jamalco 144 all out in 46.2 overs - Kirk Gordon 52, Dwayne Bennett 24; Robert Turner 4-20, Andre Henry 3-32.
AT KENSINGTON PARK: High-riding LIME beat Digicel by 87 runs. LIME 157 off 41 overs - Ryan Francis 26, national player Horace Miller and former West Indies under-19 player Andre McCarthy 23 each; Steve Logan 3-23, Ryan Edwards 2-6. Digicel 70 off 30.3 overs - Shamar Ande rson 15; former Jamaica youth player Yannick Elliott 5-17, Francis 2-16.
AT RED STRIPE OVAL: Red Stripe defeated Continental Baking Company by 48 runs. Red Stripe 190 off 42.3 overs - Junior Ricketts 31, Danny Cayman 28, former national player Wayne Cuff 26; Jermaine Mullings 2-16, Richard McIntosh 2-34, Kenny Isaacs 2-38. Continental Baking Company 142 off 27 overs - Oneil Weir 59, Mullings and Samallie Brown 22 each; Richard Allen taking 6-28, including a hat-trick.
AT CHALMERS AVENUE: Sagicor beat NWC by 15 runs. Sagicor 215 off 47.3 overs - Christopher Thomas 64, former West Indies under-19 player Akeem Dewar 50; Garwain Johnson 4-35, Fabian Forbes 3-44. NWC 200 off 48 overs - Chris Senior 40, Collington Johnson 33, David Morgan 29; Akbar Moodie 3-42, Jamie Hay 2-24.
The Reggae Jammin 50-over league moves into its ninth and final round tomorrow with five matches scheduled. These are LIME vs Red Stripe at Chalmers Avenue, Jamaica Broilers vs JUTC at Spring Village, Digicel vs Sagicor at Kensington Park, NHT vs Continental Baking Company at Mico, and NWC vs Jamalco at Mona, all starting at 10 a.m.

Eagles are still skittles champions
Cup holders Eagles confirmed their status as the island's best when they came from behind to beat Willies Strikers 6-4 in the Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum skittles final at Bejon's Sports Bar, Hughenden Plaza, last Sunday.
In the play-off for third between the losing semi-finalists, Starliner defeated Mister C from Spanish Town 6-4 as well.
After losing the first game and trailing 2-4 after six games, Eagles showed the stuff of which champions are made by winning the last four games for a decisive win.
Karyl 'Chassy' Walker put Willies ahead in the opening game with a clinical victory over Eagles' captain Clinton 'Fly Up' Thompson, winning via sinkers 1250-60.
In the following game, veteran player Everett Melbourne levelled the scores for Eagles with a 690-590 win over Anthony Lawrence, only to see Willies slip away after Damion Barrett and Ricardo Grant won back-to-back matches.
Former singles champion Leslie 'Toothpick' Puranda won a crucial game against Frederick Brooks to make it 3-2, and although Nakia Duncan beat Freddie 'Bushman' Marsh with the red ball in the sixth game to make it 4-2 in Willies favour, Eagles came into their own after that loss and never looked back.
They won the last four games through Emmanuel Munda, many-time singles champion Robert 'World Man' McKen, Orville Mighty and Godfrey Willis.
Eagles received $80,000 and the championship trophy, while Willies secured $40,000, Starliner $20,000 and Mister C $10,000.

Petrojam, NWC for BH football final
Defending champions Petrojam and National Water Commission advanced to the KSAFA/Western Sports Division I football final after semi-final wins on Tuesday.
Petrojam came from behind twice to clip Wisynco 3-2 at Mona, thanks to goals from Ricardo Munroe, Tyrone Davis and Aphas Bernard.
Kevin Mighty put Wisynco in front with a first-half goal, enabling Wisynco to lead 1-0 at half-time. Girvan Brown made it 2-1 for Wisynco early in the second half, but Davis and Bernard struck in the latter stages to send their team into the final.
In the second semi-final, NWC clipped former champions Carib Cement, courtesy of a fifth-minute goal from Nigel Reid at the Red Stripe Oval. The final will be played next Saturday, along with the Division II final between Jamaica Customs and NHT.
In Wednesday's semis, Jamaica Customs defeated Jamaica Fire Brigade 2-1 at Red Stripe Oval, thanks to goals from Anthony Ferguson and Paul McLaren, And NHT clipped Red Stripe 1-0 with a 46th-minute goal from Andre Palmer at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex.

BH knockout football semis today
The Gleaner will meet National Housing Trust and Scotiabank are up against Norman Manley International Airport in today's semi-finals of the Scotiabank Group Business House KO football competition at UWI Bowl, Mona.
The first match between The Gleaner and NHT is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. and this will be followed by the second semi-final between Scotia and NWIA at 5 p.m.
The Gleaner advanced following a resounding 10-0 win over Wray & Nephew in quarter-final action at Chalmers Avenue last Saturday. Ace striker Locksley Thompson led the scoring with three goals, Fabian Swaby netted two, while there was one each for Keiron Brock, Durant Foster, Dwayne Thompson, Jason Gayle and Steve Rogers.
NHT had beaten defending champions Wisynco 6-5 on penalties in an earlier quarter-final match to advance. The final will be played next week.

Kimali Waysome Mem Tournament at Meadowbrook
The Kimali Waysome Memorial Football Tournament takes place today at Meadowbrook High School playing field, starting at 10 a.m.
In action will be the school's present Manning Cup team, as well as the teams of 2004, 2007 and an all-star Manning Cup team.
Past students in action include Craig 'Warlord' White, William 'Billy' Lyon, Dwayne Smith and Marvin 'Big Head' Thompson. Admission $200, refreshments on sale.
Old Harbour Bay are triple champions
History was established last Saturday, as Old Harbour Bay United captured their third title of the season, defeating Albion United 2-0 in the final of the St Catherine FA U-17 League at the Spanish Town Prison Oval. Kevin McFarlane and Amando Wright scored for Old Harbour Bay.
Old Harbour Bay also copped the Division Two title and the St Catherine FA Under-15 trophy, making it a successful year for the community.

Rodwood, Old Harbour Bay face off
Rodwood, the champions of Portmore, will come face to face with Central St Catherine kingpins Old Harbour Bay United at the Spanish Town Prison Oval tomorrow in the Champion of Champions Cup, sponsored by St Catherine FA. Match time is 3 p.m.
Rodwood, who dismissed Bridgeport 5-0 last Saturday to cop the Portmore title, take on an Old Harbour Bay side that cut down Albion 2-0 to win the Central St Catherine crown.

Waterford aim at third win
Waterford domino club go in search of their third win in as many matches when they face former champions Passagefort United at Gem's Bar in Waterford in the Colin Fagan-sponsored South East St Catherine Community Domino League
In matches last week, Waterford defeated Ken's Wildflower 250-238 in the feature match at Gem's Bar in Waterford, moving the former to eight points from two games. Garveymeade made it two wins in as many matches as they stopped Portsmouth United 250-238. In other games, Passagefort United copped their first win in two games, when they defeated Westchester Nuckuz 250-223, while at Independence City Plaza, Cumberland, who defeated Rising Sun, 250-228, had that result reversed after they played with an ineligible player.

Bridgeview, Belmont clash
Last year's beaten finalists, Bridgeview CC, fresh from their commanding 98-run victory over defending champions Colours International last Sunday, challenge Portmore Pines in the third week of the Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum Portmore Cricket League at the Hamilton Gardens grounds. This match is one of four games in the league.
In other matches, guest team G.C. Foster College play their first match in the league as they oppose Portsmouth at the Portsmouth grounds;

Portmore United cops U-15 crown
Firm favourites and defending champions Portmore United wrapped up the Colin Fagan-sponsored Portmore Under-15 Football League after they blanked Cumberland 3-0 in the final at the Ferdie Neita Park last Saturday. Siegel Knight slammed home a free kick from 30 yards on the stroke of half-time to get things going for Portmore, as the ball ricocheted off the right upright and lodged in the goal. Xhane Reid and substitute, Saneekie Burton, added second-half goals to complete the scoring.
Reid used clever skills after receiving a pass from midfielder Kevon Lambert, dismissed his marker before slotting home from close range. Burton, with his first touch of the game, expertly placed the ball past a hapless Cumberland custodian, after a well-taken free kick by Knight. It was a fitting finale for a side that ended the season undefeated, and their captain, Malique Foster, finishing as the league's leading goalscorer, with 15 strikes for the second straight year.

Clarendon Senior/Junior netball semis tomorrow
The respective semi-finals of the Juici Patties Clarendon Netball Association's Senior and Junior Open leagues will be on tomorrow at the Mineral Heights Sports Centre.
The Junior semi-finals will start at 2 p.m. and features for the first time two Mandeville-based teams. Hayes All Stars will battle Manchester High while Ricam Strikers, the most experienced of the Manchester teams, take on Sewell Lane.
In last weekend's quarter-finals, Hayes defeated Glenmuir A 18-14, Ricam stopped Toll Gate 28-20, while in the high-scoring games, Manchester High topped Humble Lions 36-24 and Sewell Lane ran over Holmwood B 34-21.
The senior league semi-finals will follow their junior counterparts at approximately 3:30 p.m. Windalco will face Turbo United before favoured Jamalco take on schoolgirl champions Denbigh A.
In last weekend's two senior matches, Denbigh scored a morale-boosting 47-40 win over Turbo United while Jamalco literally ran over Windalco. That matchup was highly anticipated, given their pulsating 46-45 goal finish in the first round. However, Windalco turned up short, playing with five players, as five of their players were reportedly involved in the Jamaica Under-21 practice game against Jamaica Broilers.

New Green top Manchester awards
Manchester Major League champions New Green took home the lion's share of the prize money on offer at the annual awards ceremony held on Thursday night at Golf View Hotel in Mandeville.
New Green, who will contest next season's South Central Confed Super League, received $195,000 from sponsors Captain's Bakery for winning the Major League, and a further $50,000 as bonus for finishing the preliminary round on top.
Hillstars collected $95,000 for second, while third-place Comfort pocketed $60,000.
In the individual awards, Maurice Cyrus of Kendal received the top goalscorer award and incentive of $10,000, while Delroy Wood of New Green received similar spoils for being adjudged the top goalkeeper.
Oniel Watson, who is now on the National Premier League panel, was named the top referee while Dennis Spencer received an award for being most improved referee.

Tuff Gong, Settlement in Porus U-15 final
Tuff Gong and Settlement will, for the second straight year, battle for championship honours in the Western Union-sponsored Porus Academy Under-15 league tomorrow.
Tuff Gong stole the honours last year, but Settlement are expected to feature prominently in the final after an impressive showing in the semi-finals, when they defeated this year's surprise team, John Boscoe Boys, 4-1.
Tuff Gong had turned back the challenge of Harmons 2-1 in their semi-final.
The tournament is in its 16th year and has been sponsored by Western Union for the last 11 years. Sponsorship has increased from $700,000 last year to just over $1 million this year.

Christiana, Gully Strikers advance
The second set of games in the quarter-final round in the New Testament Church of God Cobbla Church Football League will be played tomorrow.
The first encounter starts at 2 p.m. when Roose Madrid take on Napoli, while in the feature at 4 p.m. defending champions George North face Church United.
Last weekend, two quarter-final games were played and, quite interestingly, the winning teams all competed in Zone A. The first matchup featured a massive upset where the lowest-ranked Zone A team knocked off Spring Ground, the top-ranked Zone B qualifiers. Raymond Meeks and Jermaine White got the winning goals for Christiana Strikers.

Lloyd Plummer League
Street Side were crowned inaugural champions of the INSPORTS Lloyd Plummer Memorial Football League after coming from behind to defeat Little Brazil 2-1 in the final hosted at West Park community field in May Pen, Clarendon.
The competition attracted community-based teams in the central May Pen area and named in honour of Lloyd Plummer, the former Clarendon football president and grass-roots organiser.
Ten teams were placed in two groups, with the top two from each group qualifying for a one-off knockout semi-final. In the semi-finals played the previous week, Street Side defeated West Park 1-0 while Little Brazil outscored Bushy Park 5-4 on penalties after the two had battled to a 2-2 draw.
Both finalists were unbeaten in the preliminary stage, hence the atmosphere was charged, with no fewer than 2,000 spectators crammed around the community field. Little Brazil drew first blood when Kevon Reid scored early for a 1-0 lead, before Street Side bounced back to equalise through Sporting Central Academy striker Damarley Samuels. Donovon Bertram's second-half strike secured the championship.
The game ended on a controversial note, however, as Little Brazil felt they were denied a legitimate goal when Richard Lindsay seemingly got the ball in the back of the net just a minute before the end of regulation time. However, referee Kevin Morrison ruled offside.
Street Side pocketed $50,000 for the title while Little Brazil secured $25,000.

Clarendon Business House football
Four of the quarter-final places were confirmed this week following action in the Clarendon Business House football competition.
With just two games left for most teams to complete their preliminary schedule, Daily Delicious and Epic Hardware cannot be surpassed in Zone One, while Young's Pharmacy and Sinclair's Bargain Centre are tops in Zone Two.
In results from this week, this year's surprise team, Daily Delicious, made it to the top of Zone One after collecting two wins. On Sunday morning, they turned back JPS 2-1 before edging Fire Brigade 1-0 on Wednesday. Unique Barbers improved their chances of making the second-round cut with a 3-2 win over JN, before making it a miserable week for JPS with a 2-1 win on Wednesday.
Despite losing 3-2 to Fire Brigade on Sunday, Epic Hardware secured their spot with a 2-1 midweek win over Park View.
In other results this week: Sinclairs continued Police's miserable run with a 5-2 victory over the lawmen, Young's Pharmacy won the battle of the Zone Two heavyweights, outscoring Juici Patties 4-2, National edged Agencies 3-2 while NHT and Parts A Lot (3-3) featured in the only draw of the week. It was also confirmed that National Water Commission had withdrawn from the competition.
