Larry Fiddee dies in New York

Larry Fiddee, one of the most popular cricketers to ever represent Lucas Cricket Club, died in at his residence in Far Rockaway, New York, last Thursday afternoon.

Fiddee left Jamaica in 1969 and died at age 90 after suffering from cancer.

A stylish batsman in his prime, Fiddee was one of the better batsmen of his time but unfortunately, because of the class he had to contend with, represented Jamaica only once, on the 1947 tour of Guyana, then British Guiana.

His colleagues on that tour included Ossie Cunningham, John Prescod, J.K. Holt Jnr, Frank Worrell, Kenneth 'Bam Bam' Weekes, Ken Rickards, Arthur Bonitto, Esmond Kentish and George Headley, six of whom played Test cricket, all nine of whom predeceased Fiddee.

The Guyanese team included the likes of Bruce Pairaudeau, Robert Christian, Clifford McWatt and Berkely Gaskin, all of whom represented the West Indies.
