Anderson satisfied with junior team's performance

Jamaica's junior Sunshine Girls' assistant coach, Marvette Anderson, expressed satisfaction with her team's 4-0 series win over their England counterparts in their just concluded four-match series, which ended on Wednesday at the G.C. Foster College of Physical Education in St Catherine.

The Jamaicans out-classed the English in all areas of the court, which led to them winning all the matches by more than 10 points.

"I think that they performed creditably well because to beat England 4-0 in a four-match series is no easy task," said Anderson.

"I was also impressed with the shooters because I think that they really stood out, but overall the entire team did well in the series," she said.

"I think that players also showed a lot guts and determination throughout the series because when we were down by five goals in [the] third game at half-time, the players came and won it by 12 goals at the end."

However, despite this, she added that they still have a lot of work to do before the Under-21 World Championships comes up in two years' time.

"We are not going to get complacent and think that it is all over because we know that England is going to do their homework, and so we know that this won't be same the team in 2013," Anderson said.

"I know that we still have a lot of work to do in our preparation because there are some areas that we have to pay full attention to in order for us to get to where we need to be before the championships."

The Jamaicans defeated England 51-40 in their final match of the series. Shantal Slater led the way for the Jamaicans with 27 goals from 31 attempts.

Slater received solid support from Deneen Taylor, with 23 goals from 26 attempts and Shanice Lee, who shot one goal from three tries.

Both teams used the series as part of their build-up towards the (under-21) World Youth Championships, which will be held in Scotland in 2013.
