MP Hylton: I'm hard at work
In a letter to the editor published yesterday, Jackie Knight of Waterhouse hauled Anthony Hylton, MP for Western St Andrew, over the coals for the deplorable roads in her neighbourhood. Mr Hylton has responded.
Dear Ms Knight:
You would have noticed that, among the things I have done since being elected member of parliament for West St Andrew, which includes the communities of Waterhouse, is to place priority on the fast-crumbling infrastructure in the constituency. The main thoroughfare along the length of Penwood, West Bay Farm, Henley, Ashoka and Gandhi roads have all been rehabilitated.
You may be interested in knowing that I had to utilise funds from the limited Constituency Development Fund as matching funds in order to get the assistance of the National Works Agency to address the condition of these roads.
More to the point, however, is the fact that the councillor for the area, Mr Byron Clarke, and I have continued to make representation to both the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) and the Ministry of Transport and Works for both Savitri and Bolivar roads to be fixed, without any positive response.
Once again, I have had to allocate funds from the limited CDF to fix Savitri and St Lucia roads in Waterhouse during this Budget year. I am advised that the estimates will be done by the KSAC shortly.
You may be interested to note that I have driven on these roads within the last month and was in the community on Saturday and Sunday last. I take the opportunity to invite you to call or visit the constituency office located at 60 Salkey Avenue, Duhaney Park, or to attend any of the community meetings usually held at the Marie Atkins Primary School in Waterhouse.
I assure you that your MP is neither missing nor inactive!
G. ANTHONY HYLTON,
MP
