WESTERN BUREAU:
Gone are the days when having a single career was seen as the norm, so 17-year-old Romario English is focused on making careers out of entertainment and information technology but his first stop - being a disc jockey.
English, who goes by the moniker 'DJ Romiie', is an aspiring young DJ who recently graduated from Cornwall College in Montego Bay and wants to make an active contribution in changing the way entertainment is viewed in the Second City.
"While I am relatively new on the scene as it relates to music selection, I firmly believe that everyone who is now popular started out just like me until they built their reputation," he said.
"I'm focused on learning the craft well, getting billed for parties to showcase my skills and show Montego Bay just what I can do with music."
He explained that his interest in being a DJ is simple.
"I've always loved music as a child, but it wasn't until one day I was using my computer and listening to the radio, I realised I really liked how the DJ was playing. I then heard about a program called Virtual DJ. I got it and I have being playing music ever since."
English considers ZJ Chrome and DJ Nicco as the motivating figures behind his intent to enter the entertainment business while adding that international rapper Wiz Khalifa promotes individuality - an attribute that he also admires.
But being an upcoming disc jockey has its challenges.
"I am new and not many persons know of my DJ skills and I have to focus on my efforts to get my name out there and getting the experience. But I am committed to it and I am confident that eventually the name DJ Romiie will be on the lips of everyone," the ambitious teen shared.
"As it relates to my future plans, I intend to pursue an associate degree in management information systems within the technology field. In addition, I hope to be fully equipped with my DJ apparatus so I can occasionally do music selection at events."
