WINDSOR, St Ann:

YOUNG JELEN-ANN Brown, otherwise called Kameka, is a prime example of how most Jamaicans are hoping the country's young people would live.

The 21-year-old Aabuthnott Gallimore High School graduate is currently enrolled as a part-time student at Moneague College in St Ann, studying business administration and psychology. She is scheduled to finish next year and expects to earn her associate degree in business and a diploma in psychology.

But what makes her stand out is her passion to do voluntary work with children. Jelen-Ann is a volunteer computer teacher at the Windsor Basic School in her community, and has been giving the children their first taste of the computer.

"I find time to volunteer because the school is in my community, and I always want to do something for my community. I chose the basic school because Mrs Debra Reid-Brown (principal of the school) has always been encouraging me to come here," Jelen-Ann explained to The Gleaner recently.

She was happy the school had received a second computer from Springs of Hope, as this would make the equipment more accessible to the kids.

"Working with children is good. It's challenging, but I love children," she said. "I've been here over a month, but I've had it in mind to do something like this from I was in high school at Aabuthnott Gallimore High. Finally it has happened."
