Maverley starts the party early with 'Day Rave'

Day Rave is a weekly party which is hosted on Fridays and Saturdays in Maverley, St Andrew.
Garth Lewis, a member of the Day Rave Promotions Crew, says the concept of the party came about after they observed that most Kingston parties started too late, which often resulted in the patrons leaving displeased. "We wanted to have a party that starts early, so that patrons would come out early and have a good time. That's why we came up with the name Day Rave," he said.
He said there is action at the venue from as early as noon. "We cook during the day, so people normally hang out and buy drinks and food. There are also females that normally flank the area and keep the vibe irie," Lewis said.
However, for patrons who want to get straight to the party experience, it wouldn't be wise to go to Day Rave when the sun is up, as Lewis said the partying starts between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. He also explained that Day Rave does not have an entry fee and this guarantees the patrons more than value for their money.
"We did not create this party to make money initially; it was to assist a few friends of mine who wanted to do something for themselves, so the admission is free and the liquor is cheap. We even have drink specials for $100, so it's unbeatable," he told The Gleaner. The four-month-old event is said to have experienced significant growth since its first staging.
Lewis said there is a designated parking area for Day Rave patrons and explained that Maverley is no longer a volatile area, hence anybody can come there to party. "The community is living good for a long time now. People are living together and trying to support each other, and the peace is nice," he said the thriving Day Rave has also partnered with Hughenden Supermarket and Avery's Beauty Concepts to provide gift vouchers for lucky patrons who win prizes at the event.
Day Rave is hosted at 4 Seals Road, Maverley, Kingston 20, and this week the dress code is female-oriented - Short Shorts.
"Party people turn out to Day Rave this and every weekend. It's a nice event. You can sit back, relax and enjoy yourself and/or dance in a safe environment. It's early, so you can go home in time to get enough sleep for work the next day," he said.
