Lennon snap Edwin Allen's nine-game unbeaten streak

Lennon High School ended Edwin Allen's impressive nine-game unbeaten streak and avenged their first-round 1-0 defeat when they came away from yesterday's epic Zone H showdown in the 2011 ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup with a 1-0 win.

Despite their defeat, Edwin Allen continue to lead the group with 24 points, accumulated through eight wins, one draw and one defeat in 10 games. Lennon, who scored through Shavaneil Berry, stay in third place, albeit improving their points tally to 22.

"This win is a very good one for us because we really work hard today and put in a very good performance," said Lennon's coach Merron Gordon. "They defeated us 1-0 in the first round and we were determined not to lose to them a second time."

In another game in the group, the inconsistent Claude McKay gave their inter-zone bid a much needed injection of points when they clipped Alston 1-0 to move to 15 points. Alston's campaign continues to be miserable as they were losing for the sixth time in seven games.

Unbeaten run

In the third of the Zone H games, second-place Clarendon College extended their unbeaten run to eight games after scoring a 2-0 win against Thompson Town. The Clarendon team now sits on 20 points.

In the competitive Zone I, which has been dubbed the 'zone of death', former champions Glenmuir continued to display irresistible form, clobbering Central High 8-0 to extend their unbeaten run to seven games. The Jackie Walters-coached team, which now moves to second place in the group on 19 points and with two outstanding games in hand, got their goals through Andre Scott (3), Newton Henry (2), Noel Johnson (2) and Roshane Follette.

Group leaders Denbigh High continued their relentless march towards winning the Zone I Ben Francis KO slot by tagging former champions Vere Technical 2-0 to move five points clear atop the standings with 24 points.

Former champions Garvey Maceo got an important win yesterday when they turned back the challenge of Kemps Hill 3-0 to be in joint second place with Glenmuir on 19 points. Roshane Spence, Ishmael Curry and Garth Mackie were on target for the Jeffrey Hewitt-coached Garvey Maceo.
