Manning matches postponed

All matches that were scheduled to be played yesterday in Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup football competition have been postponed until Tuesday.

The matches, which numbered 18 and represented the final set in the preliminary round, were postponed due to the inclement weather that left a number of venues inundated.

"We made a decision to postpone the matches at about 1p.m. as our checks on the various venues revealed that all, with perhaps the exception of the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, were inundated," said ISSA's competition secretary, George Forbes.

"We didn't want to play that match (Charlie Smith vs Wolmer's), which would allow the other teams to know what they needed to do, so we took the decision to replay all the games on Tuesday," he declared.

Forbes also said the daCosta Cup matches which were not played yesterday due to the weather would also be played on Tuesday.

Wolmer's, along with seven other teams, were down to do battle as they seek to book a spot in the second round of the Manning Cup. The others are Ascot, Penwood, Donald Quarrie, Waterford, Denham Town, Spanish Town and Innswood.

Those who have already qualified include Kingston College, Hydel, St George's College, Charlie Smith, Bridgeport, Jose Marti, Jamaica College, Camperdown, Calabar and Excelsior.
