Village United hold Waterhouse

Struggling Village United managed to snare another point in the 2011-12 National Premier League yesterday afternoon when they played out a 0-0 draw against Waterhouse at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.

By virtue of the one point collected, the Village United team, which is winless after nine games, moved from one to two points. Waterhouse, who left the venue disappointed, still hold their mid-table position with 12 points.

Village United's coach Kendal Mercury was somewhat satisfied, as while the team did not score, he felt they played with much more purpose than in their recent games.

"We made some changes in personnel and it showed, as we were much more cohesive in this game, and although we did not get any clear-cut chances, we had more shots on target than in our recent games," said Mercury. "It would have been nice if we had gotten all three points, but we are thankful for the one we got."

In the nine games they have played this season, Village United are already looking a good candidate for relegation, having lost seven times, along with two draws. They have only scored four goals and have given up 11.

"We have been doing some serious work on the training ground and we are seeing some changes in the attitude of the players," noted Mercury. "I believe things are now poised to get better ... confidence is coming into the team."

Waterhouse's coach Donavan Duckie, who was also not too disappointed with the draw result, believes that the team showed the kind of commitment that was missing in their recent game, and he was quite happy about that.

"We have not been showing a lot of commitment in recent games but today was different so that was a positive," said Duckie. "While we would have preferred a win, a point on the road is still a good result."

Waterhouse, who started the season with a bang, have been faltering in recent games, They now have three wins, three draws and three defeats in their nine games.
