Music in the blood
Upcoming DJ/producer Delano Nicholas Thomas, son of veteran Renaissance giant, Delano Thomas, says he can carry on the legacy of his father.
The 20-year-old has already released numerous mixtapes and played at events both local and internationally.
According to Delano III, he had no choice but to fall in love with music - it was around him every day.
"I grew up in a house with music. Living with my dad, I was able to learn stuff from early. Sometimes, he had to run me to study because I spent a lot of time in the studio," he said.
The young DJ/producer says that his embrace for the art further developed when he migrated to Florida in 2003, where had access to his own studio.
"With my own studio, I now had the time to make my own tracks, and then my dad got me a Fantom keyboard and that boosted my potential," he said.
unique and new elements
Delano, who is a professional guitarist, has also mastered the production software called Pro Tools, which is used by professional producers and musicians.
"I am confident that the young Renaissance members can carry on the legacy because we always want to be unique and add new elements to our work ... plus we have learnt from the best," he said.
In his capacity as DJ Delano III, the youngster says that he is developing his own local fan base.
"I have performed at local events such as UWI Fête, Club Privilege, Fiction Nightclub and even outside of Kingston like St Ann, and the crowd always enjoys it because my selections are comprised of unique remixes and so forth," he said.
"Sometimes people expect to see my dad instead of me, but once I start playing they realise that I am good at what I do ... . My dad even recommends me to clients when he is unavailable because he is confident in me," he said.
Delano III is working on the third edition of his mixtape called Showtime, to be released at a date undecided.
