The IAAF Council yesterday decided on the hosts of the other four IAAF World Athletics Series events for 2014 . The 2014 World Indoor Championships will be staged in Sopot, Poland, with the World Junior Championships scheduled for Eugene, Oregon, in the United States; though the exact dates are yet to be announced.

Sopot was the only candidate city for the 2014 World Indoor Championships after Zagreb withdrew its bid.

Irena Szewinska, IAAF Council Member and part of the bidding team, expressed pride at the outcome.

"We are very proud and happy, and we can ensure the world that we will do our very best to organise the championships on a very high level. The arena is a very beautiful indoor hall and is only one year old, and the track will be raised and a new Mondo surface will be installed to provide top conditions. We also have high-level facilities for training and warm-up," said Szewinska.

Eugene was also the only candidate for the World Junior Championships, after The Bahamas withdrew because of a lack of funding.

Senior IAAF vice-president, Bob Hersh, has welcomed the event and spoke to what he called a 'special' place for USA's track and field.

"It's a very proud and exciting moment that, after so many years of being in the position, to host the world's athletes in a major world athletics-series event. There are challenges ahead, but I know that the people of Eugene and our national federation are going to meet those challenges and do everything to make this a very successful event," said Hersh.

"Because it's in Eugene in "TrackTown USA", because of where it is, in that special environment, in that stadium and that site, we know it will be a success," he added.

The 2014 World Half Marathon Championships will be staged in Copenhagen, Denmark, at a date to be announced, after edging out Cheboksary, Russia.

The 2014 edition of the IAAF Intercontinental Cup was awarded to Marrakesh, Morocco.
