SANTA golf tournament returns to Constant Spring
Jamaica's premier charity golf tournament, SANTA, is returning to Constant Spring Golf Club (CSGC) on Sunday, December 4. SANTA stands for 'Seeing A Need, Taking Action' and will benefit local charities.
The tournament, which has attracted more than 150 golfers, plus family and friends this year, will be in its 11th year.
Organisers hope to raise over $1.5 million in donations to be disbursed among five entities which have been earmarked for support. The beneficiaries are: The Wortley Home, Lalyce Gray Basic School in Constant Spring, Peace and Love in Schools (PALS), Laws St Trade Training Centre and Mustard Seed Communities.
New management
After 10 highly successful years under the leadership of Frank Jackson, SANTA is being run by a new management committee this year, led by
seasoned golf adminis-trators David Mais and the men's and ladies' captains at CSGC, Tommy Smith and Michelle Gabay.
Tee times are from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 4. The tournament format remains the same - stableford 7/8 handicap.
Competition with take place in eight categories - five for men, two women and a junior category (age 11 through 18).
Competitors will be vying for the traditional wide range of top-quality electronic prizes, including iPads, iPods and televisions. Prizes will also be given for Closest Drive to the Pin and Closest to the Line (one of each for men, women and juniors). Finally, there will be a Chip and Putt competition on Friday, December 2.
Social events surrounding the SANTA tournament will include a get-together on Friday, December 2 and an after-tournament party and prize-giving ceremony. Registration fee is $8,000 for adults and $6,000 for juniors. Registration is now open at CSGC (tel. 755-2066)and will close on Wednesday, November 30.
This year's lead sponsor is the Jamaica National (JN) Group, including JN Fund Managers and the Jamaica Automobile Association. Other lead corpo-rate sponsors to date include ICWI, Walkerswood, Power 106, Guardsman and Advantage General Insurance.
