Schools hunt spots in rural semis

Top teams in the rural area Digicel/ISSA netball competition will be hoping to advance to next Tuesday's semi-finals, when they compete today in quarter-final action at Manchester High School, starting at 10 a.m. with the juniors, while senior teams will start at noon.
All-island senior champions Denbigh High will be in action at noon against Dinthill Technical. Denbigh, who put a halt to Holmwood's eight-year run last year, won Group Three in fine style after scoring five wins against Titchfield (51-27), St Elizabeth Technical (48-14), Frome Technical (49-21), Thompson Town (57-8) and Marymount High (59-10).
Holmwood, with the outstanding Denean Taylor in their line-up, has been the most outstanding team so far, chalking up five impressive wins, including 72-6 over Herbert Morrison and 71-9 over Anchovy High. They also beat York Castle (63-1), Decarteret (52-13) and Dinthill (50-17). They will face Titchfield at 1:45 p.m. without Taylor, who is away on national duty with the senior team at the World FastNet Championships in Liverpool, England.

In junior action, the matches are: Manchester High vs Foga Road at 10 a.m.,
Herbert Morrison scored a big upset in qualifying as the top team from their group, squeezing out a narrow 25-24 win over defending champions Holmwood. They also beat Mt Alvernia 39-18, St Hilda's 44-7, Old Harbour 28-24 and Bishop Gibson 38-20.
